Its hard to say for sure without knowing what your AHI was before cpap, but if you are feeling better then I would say you have taken a step in the right direction. I would keep everything the same for a few days and see what your results are over time and then re-evaluate. If it were me I would want the leak rate to come down a bit, and the goal is to get the AHI under 5.0, but if this is an improvement then thats good news. Just stick with it for about a week, look at your numbers and how you have felt and re-eavluate then. A sleep diary may be a helpful tool. Just record your numbers and make notes on how you slept and how you felt when you woke and through the rest of the day, doesn't have to be anything fancy.

I'm glad you are feeling better. Keep us posted on your progress.

Here's a link to a list of OSA and related terms:

http://www.sleepnet.com/definition.html

In brief, AI means Apnea Index, representing the number of apneas per hour. HI is Hypopnea Index, hypopneas per hour. Put them together and you have your AHI, or Apnea/Hypopnea Index. Like I said, ideally you want your your total AHI to be less than 5.0.

Daddycoop, if you could, it is much easier to read when you don't type all in caps. Also, on the internet, typing in all capitol letters is considered shouting.

The first thing to improve your numbers would be to see if you can improve your leaks. Anything over .40 on the Resmed means that your other data may not be accurate. You can do a search on your mask, and see what people on the board have done to improve the seal on the mask you have. If the mask is leaking too much, you don't get all of the treatment pressure. It could also cause the pressure to go higher than necessary. So treating leaks is always important.

The first thing is to be sure you have washed your face before putting it on, and don't apply any creams or lotions. The mask usually seals best when you have clean, dry skin. I am sure there are lots of other tricks for your mask, but I don't used a full face mask, so am not familiar with them. But lots of people on here use your mask, so there is lots of ideas.

As you adjust to the pressure, your numbers may improve. You can't really tell much from one night. Over a period of time, you start to see a pattern, and then can make decisions about how to fix any problems.

Sticking with it is the best thing you can do!

I did a leaktest with mask and it said excellent and the leak ratio of .5 looked ok? scale 5-20 mild it states, TODAY is actually 1st day I had energy, just want to make sure I fine tune the machine and the results are ok, last thing I want is to lay there and have something set NOT RIGHT..............

Probably what is happening is that the mask fits well, but sometimes when you move, it may shift, and you get a leak for a little bit. The mask fit only shows right then, and the leak on your LCD is the average, or else the 95% number, can't remember for sure. Depending on how much of the time it is leaking, and how badly, it may not be a problem.

Maybe just some time. If you are feeling good, enjoy it for a few days and see if your numbers settle down. Most of your score is HI, which could come down on its own after a few days. Mine did on straight CPAP. You have a high pressure and a Bi-pap, so someone with experiance in those areas should probably be advising you if you do need further adjustments.

daddycoop, I couldn't help with interpreting the numbers you posted, but I did want to make a small suggestion since what you wrote in that sentence is referring to two different manufacturers.

It's good that you're listing your equipment, but at the time I'm seeing it just now, I'm not sure which manufacturer's machine you actually have. Probably Respironics. You might want to doublecheck the names of the two items I've highlighted in red.

Machine: REMstar BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex
Sounds like you mean the Respironics BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex. Doesn't have "REMstar" in its name.
Mask: Mirage Quattro Full Face CPAP Mask with Headgear
Humidifier: REMstar Heated Humidifier
Software: S8 ResScan Smart Card
S8 and ResScan refer to ResMed (a manufacturer.) If your machine is actually manufactured by Respironics, not by ResMed, then you have a Smart Card that works with Encore software, not ResScan software.

I know that those two manufacturers' names can be easily confused. I still get the manufacturer names and machine model names mixed up myself sometimes.

You can find the name of the machine you're using written on top of the machine itself.

You're doing very well getting used to your machine and mask, daddycoop!

Keep hanging in here and keep asking questions.
ResMed S9 VPAP Auto (ASV)
Humidifier: Integrated + Climate Control hose
Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps
