Newbie Offered Machine

Post by roster » Wed Apr 15, 2009 9:31 am

My friend was just called by his DME and told he is to come in and pick up a Respironics Remstar DS520.

What is this machine? I can't find anything on the net.

Thanks.

"Remstar" suggests a legacy model by I'm pretty sure that the DS does NOT stand for Dreamstalker

From what I'm seeing on Craigslist and cpapauction, this is very basic machine. Might be a stripped down M Series without data capacity, and possibly without even cflex.

There's a ton of "DSXXXX" machines I'm seeing lately on cpapauction going for CHEAP. Not sure if these are newly manufactured for a low-end market, or an early model that DME's are cleaning out, or what it is.

You might PM Johnny and ask him what he knows about it.

I'd give him this advice - if he doesn't see the word "Pro" or "Auto" on it, DON'T ACCEPT IT.

Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Den (Wulfman) posted a list of the model numbers for Respironics machines:
viewtopic.php?p=338351#p338351

I don't see a 520 The 500 series are the Autopaps. Perhaps the DME misspoke and meant 510 (Auto with A-Flex) or 500 (Auto with just C-Flex) ?

Those numbers are on this Respironics page:
http://encore.respironics.com/type.aspx

This Respironics site also takes you to the model numbers after you start at the "Sleep Disorder Breathing" section and work your way to the machine you want to see, then click "Resources" (menu at right side on the machine page) - "Parts and accessories":

Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps

Oh how confusing. These are Respironics PART numbers. And this chart doesn't tell you if it's an M Series or a "tank".

http://encore.respironics.com/type.aspx

"REMStar" appears on BOTH the M Series and the Tanks. Meh.

Well, at least I know what those weird numbers are now. I'll quit assuming "DS" means something terrible.

Cheers,
B.

I wonder if it was the "REMstar Plus M Series with C-Flex" - DS200, and someone misread the S for 5.

Thanks guys. The newbie will question the DME this afternoon about model DS520.

If it is a mistake, I told him not to take it unless they offer him DS500 or DS510 (C-Flex or A-Flex).

I wonder if Respironics could have a new machine out (DS520)? It is not on their website at this point.

The message did say "Auto", but we know how DMEs are. Just have to wait and see at this point.

I told the buddy to be prepared to walk away from the DME without the machine if he is not 100% certain of what he is getting.

I would go with him but my arrest record is already too long.

Just something I've noticed recently about manufacturing. It's probably been going on for years.

I bought a pair of shoes recently, that I really like. I've been EVERYWHERE trying to buy another pair. According to the manufacturer's website, these shoes do not exist. I say this, because they don't appear on their website.

It's possible they were an old model, that's been discontinued. It's possible they were a short run, and they are just "test marketing" them. It's possible that they were not big sellers, and they just never posted them on their website.

I can see all of these options in reference to the Mystery Machine your buddy is getting, Rooster.

We shall just see what he comes home with.

Cheers,
B.

Your avatar looks like it's striding purposefully straight for the DME store right now!
