Alpha Intrusion Information

Post by jayjp04 » Tue Apr 14, 2009 5:58 pm

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about alpha intrusion ( found on both my sleep studies ). I find it very tough to find information for it on the internet, so if anyone has any good websites or books they could send me links to it would be greatly appreciated. I do not have any sort of chronic pain ( I am a 22 y o extremely tired but otherwise healthy male ), and I noticed especially during my undergraduate years that after a night of 5-6 beers, I felt UNBELIEVABLE the next day. Tons of energy, motivation to work out, and I was not constantly falling asleep when sedentary. I did find some information online that alcohol can work similar to sleeping meds to suppress or prevent the alpha intrusions from occurring. I would like to stay away from medications if at all possible. I may be way off base here, but has anyone heard of experimenting with things like meditation, yoga, or otherwise mind calming activities before sleeping to try and prevent alpha intrusions from occurring? From my research chronic stress, stimulants, and pain can trigger it. I do have UARS and a high number of arousals (35 per hour) when not on CPAP, but much lower number of arousals on CPAP. Any thoughts?

I think you're on the right track.
