Not sleeping well

Post by spookydoo » Tue Apr 14, 2009 9:35 am

I need help! I just bought a Resmed s8AutoII machine and love it. However, I'm developing some problems.
According to the software and card reader I purchased, here are my AHI levels at the end of each night.

1st night-7.8
2nd night 4.4
3rd night 3.0
4th night 2.1-NO apneatic events. Slept better than I have slept in years. Felt GREAT the next day.
5th night 7.2-I kept waking throughout the night, never fell into a deep sleep (that it felt like), and woke up feeling like I had been awake all night. Had 3 anpeatic events.

I did not change any of the settings from night 4 to night 5. However, I did take an antihistamine on night 2, 3, and 4, but not on night 5-for allergies. I get it that the antihistamine made my airway clearer. What I don't understand though is that this is an autoadjusting machine. Should it not take the pressure up as needed? I had 3 apneatic events that night (night 5) and my pressure never went higher than 12, even though I have it set to go up to 20 if necessary.

Also, another question for those of you familiar with the Resmed s8auto computer software--what are the red thermometer looking things that represent an apneatic event. I know what they are, but I don't know what the numbers represent over top of them--typically a 10, 11, 12, or 13.

Appreciate your help. This is my third machine. My last one was a Respironics M Series-A Flex. I have another sleep study scheduled in two months. Haven't had one in 7 years--I know too long. In the meantime I'd appreciate anyone's help as I'd love to have a good night's sleep and stop experiencing fatigue, dizziness, tinnitus, and all the other things that go along with not sleeping. Thanks.

Sounds like you're having a typical experience. We ALL HAVE BAD NIGHTS for no explainable reason. Just gotta saddle up and keep riding. What counts if your long term well-being - not your daily numbers.

Keep at it. It can be a slow gradual process to getting to the "I feel better than I did before" stage.

Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

The numbers at the top of each apneatic event represent the time that you are in each event...or in other words, "the length of time each event lasts" hope this helps.
