Somnoplus vs Soyala Nasal...what's the difference???

Post by atruvirgo » Sat Apr 11, 2009 11:15 pm

I currently use a Soyala Nasal mask and need to purchase a new mask. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference is between the Somnoplus and the Soyala. I don't really see a difference.

the cushion is the same - interchangeable but that is the only interchangeable part

the somnoplus headgear doesn't have clips just velcro you put into some hard plastic slots

the somnoplus vents down the hose not out the front so there isn't the elbow getting pushed in and the mask leaking that I have with the soyala

the forehead piece is slightly different for the two - the somnoplus has 4 pieces - you pick one - don't adjust like the soyala - there is a vertical adjustment however

they are about same level of quietness - I can't tell the difference

anything else - pm me and I can pull out the soyala - I prefer the somnoplus myself -

I don't have any first-hand information to add to a comparison of these two masks. However, I would like to make an observation that raises questions for me:
I assume the cost of return insurance for masks from CPAP.com reflects the probability of return from a first-time purchaser of a mask. The question then is why the RI for the Soyala is $51.02 on a mask costing $79 and the RI for the SomnoPlus is $17.81 on a mask that costs just $9 less. The two enjoy approximately the same review ratings from similar numbers of reviewers; something must be happening to cause a lot of first-time buyers of the Soyala to want to return them - what might that be?

Just a little price history - prices are from cpap.com - I still have my online orders and checked them.

I bought the Soyala nasal in Feb 2007 for $ 99

I bought 2 Somnoplus in Aug 2007 for $ 59.95 each

I bought 2 Somnoplus in Nov 2007 for $ 39.95 each

The Soyala had been $ 99 for a long time. The price of the Somnoplus has varied more and was $ 42.95 I believe for a long time before it rose to its current price. That price increase occurred around the same time all the MAP hoopla from the big three was here.

I bought the Somnoplus originally for the cushions and other interchangeable parts (there turned out not to be any more) to use on the Soyala. I ended up liking it better.

It sounds like the price on the Somnoplus has gone up since 2007. I am hoping that the soyala gel mask will be released here in the US.
