From Dubai ...amazing people amizing website ...!!!

Post by Mohd » Mon Apr 06, 2009 5:36 pm

Hey guys...hope everything goes will with you

this is my first time to post in this very nice & awesome web site, I've ordered my Apap couple a days back and I'll be gettn' it here in Dubai within another couple aa days(on Thursday I guess) ...!

I'm waiting eagerly to experiment myself this machine... I did order it actually without going to any sleeplab cos ironically we don't have such a thing in here , desperately ; I decided to take risk after consulting a lot of docs here and there and reading alot about this sleep disorder.

I've done the following surgeries in past one year:

-Septoplasty
-FESS
-UVPP
-Tonsillectomy
they did not do that good to me as I was expecting...!!!!

I'll wait for that APAP and see ...How I hope it would work for me

I'm giving to much work to my guardian angles... two days back I jumped red trafic light & boy; that was close ...

the things that happen to me and made order this maching is in a nut shell as follow:

of course I feel excessively sleep along with irritating photophobia the whole day I'd struggle to open my eyes in Dubai super bright super hot summer sun.
fatigue
My eyes are alwys red and puffy along with the dark circle around my eyes ( people think the I'm alcoholic) but the surgeries I noticed substantial improvement.
Irritability and not willing to talk to anyone espescially in the morning
I rarely dream maybe once in a year ( but after these surgeryies I started to dream more)
I use to snore very loudly ( but after the UVPP no snoring any more)
I have very shallow breathing.
I feel so distracted sometimes, and unable to accomplish what I'm supposed to finish with the given time
I lack the vitality the some people enjoy .
the thing the really upsets me most is once I'm in the bed i'll take me like more than 90 min trying to sleep even sometimes I'm so sleepy and so tired, and if i'll fall asleep i'll wake up after 15 min with my heart shuddering and jerking and boy it will take another two hours almost to fall asleep. damn it

advise please...

Mohammed

Salaam, Welcome to the forum. I can't recall if we have had anyone else from Dubai.

I must say I find Dubai a fascinating place. My wife & I have stayed with friends who
live in Jumeirah just close to Jumeirah Rd & Al Manara Rd. Loved my stay there. Such
an amazing lot of construction. The roads seem to grow faster than mushrooms.

Recently I was looking at photos of the Burj Tower - utterly amazing. For anyone who
hasn't heard of it, it is the worlds tallest building & just being completed around 0.8 KM tall.
(thats 2,680 ft - imagine a bungy jump from up there )

Again welcome.

Salaam and welcome! You will certainly feel better once you get titrated and settled in. I started in early February of this year, and I already feel SO much better.
Sleep well and live better!

Hi Mohammad,

It is so great to have you part of this awesome CPAP Community! I'm glad you found us! Congratulations on figuring out what equipment you need and for choosing excellent equipment. It must be difficult not having sleep labs & DME's there. We complain a lot about ours, but at least we have them . . . and sometimes they are very helpful.

You certainly have done a lot of surgeries to solve your sleeping problems ! NOW . . . I hope we can help you make your CPAP therapy a great success Ask all the questions you want to . . . and we will try our best to help!

Welcome aboard!
Joy

I may misinterpret the situation but I think that this gentleman had no titration and will not have one! He will just get a brand new APAP the next days and needs advices, a lot of advices! He is on his own! And It is a self diagnostic... He thinks he has OAS.

May be it will be helpful for everyone if he gives us details on the equipment he is getting : APAP company and model, mask, software if any, humidifier if any...

I think you read it well - yes he is doing this off his own bat and needs our guidance to do a self-titration.
I think there will be some challenges with language but am sure we can work around them.

Mohammed,

what is your normal language (Arabic ?) or are you one of the 4 million workers living in Dubai
(out of a total population of 5 million).

We will try to guide you in how to start using your Auto machine ?

What brand of machine is it and what model is it ?

Thankyou

It is awesome how supportive you folk are...
yes indeed my first languags is arabic, english is my second one...and sorry for any inconvenience..
I've done this thing on my own after getting frustrated with the docs in here everyone seems to give me a second hand opinion they are not really sure about what should be done they don't even know what is the difference among all these XPAPs...
I hreard about OSA almost one year back and since I decided to figure out how to treat it in the most intuitive ways, I tried to reduced my weight almost considerably , I've changed my eating habit ...etc

the I figured out after dowing my CT scan that I have to opt for these surgeries, in fact I feel alot better from that last year but still they didn't do me as what I was expecting.

I'll wait and see , I'll be recieving my machin and the software on Thursday this week.

Assalaum alaikum

There are several hospitals in the UAE that have sleep labs. In Abu Dhabi I know Al Noor Hospital & Sheik Khalifa Medical Center have sleep labs & sleep apnea departments. In Dubai I think the American Hospital or Welcare Hospital have a sleep lab & sleep apnea department. All the major brands of xpaps & equiptment are available from the medical supply shops.

GulfPearl,

Does this mean you are a local from the UAE ? - fantastic. That area is so stunning it is hard to describe it to anyone else who has not been there.

I was in the Burj Al Arab Hotel a while back, in the bar at the top & took photographs of the palm islands down in the gulf - when I showed them to people back home they inevitably asked me if I had hired a light aircraft to take the pics (I am an amateur fixed wing & rotary wing pilot) I then would explain. no I was in the bar of the Burj Al Arab hotel at Jumeirah Beach & took the pics from there The Burj Tower is much much taller that the Burj Al Arab Hotel which is a piddling 321 meters compared to 818 meters, so I imagine some people might ask if any pics taken from up the top there were whilst in orbit

Links to Burj Al Arab - in itself an incredible story in itself -

I have been living in the UAE for the last 27 years. It is amazing the amount of changes there has been. When I first arrived Dubai was a small town surrounded by desert now there is development all over the place. Development is good but the desert will suffer because there is less & less of it.

I've never been to Dubai, but I've been wowed by the pictures and descriptions of the man-made wonders there. One that stands out in my mind is Ski Dubai. It's amazing that they could build an indoor ski complex with 5 runs and a chairlift, snow year-round, in the middle of the desert. I don't even want to think about what the electric bill for that place must be!

Welcome to cpaptalk, Mohammed.

I did actually go to the american hospital and 1 year back they've not told that we do have a sleep lab , the neurologist there told that you have Delayed sleep phase disorder and he mentioned nothging about the sleep lab... he prescibed melatonin and crazy huge 10000 lx lamp it took 2 month to find it, I bought it online
It is a very nice light source for photography especially when you wnat to show motion.
I also went to Alzahara hospital in Sharjah where they do titration study for the patients I paid around 600 USD to do this and yet I've not recieved the result.
the Doc there I swear to God does not know the difference between the bipap or cpap or apap...

I've found the Apap machine here in dubai but it is quite costly , I oredred mine for 1400 usd if I was to buy here it wouldda cost like 3000 usd f

this my fifth year here in Dubai. it is very nice place to live very open with so many options that fit everyone ...I just love this place you guys would be amzed how fast things are going here ...

I'll be getting my machine day after tommrow i'm tracking it in UPS I'll keep posting meanwhile , and advice on where to find IDIOT GUIDE TO APAP?

Assalaum alaikum, Mohammed!

Thank you GulfPearl for teaching me that spelling, I only knew that phrase verbally before!

DSM - You've been to the Burj Al Arab? SERIOUS ENVY FIT!!!! I've only seen it on TV. I will only ever see it on TV. WOWZER!!!!!!!

Sounds like you're doing the right thing, Mohammed. You did your research, and bought an auto titrating machine.

The problem is going to be living through weeks of self-titration, vs. being able to have all the bells and whistles performed on you in one or two nights.

Seriously, if you can possibly afford it, take Gulf Pearl's advice and go get a sleep study in the UAE.

IF NOT, and I send this out to all self-titrators, YOU GOTTA TAKE YOUR TIME DOING THIS. And you DEFINITELY need to acquire the software and card readers, or your never going to get anywhere.

Change 1 and only 1 variable at a time. And give that change some time. Most folks here say 1-2 weeks. I'd say 3-4 nights. But then, I'm over caffeinated and ADD.

The big problem that I see is you're going to have to do everything darned thing mail order, and I just don't know how long it takes to get stuff from USA, Europe or Australia. Are there DME's online in the UAE? That would make things go a little faster, I'd think.

BTW, your English is JUST FINE. Way better than several Texans on this board... (KIDDING ABOUT THE TEXANS!!!!!!)

Glad you found us!!!! Keep us posted and we'll do the best we can for you.

Cheers,
Barbara

wow! that's quite a lot you've spent on mohd.

I'm also interested into getting a machine and/or into a sleep lab.

i feel that i'd do better in work when I am fully energized from sleeping.

Just a newbie question to you guys who've successfully rested. Does it really make that much of a difference when you've been able to 'sleep' with the machine?

mohd, i'm from Abu dhabi. and I am one of the 4 million workers here in UAE.
