Encore Pro Help
Encore Pro Help
HELP!!!!!!! I have not had any problems with Encore Pro for over two years. Now my computer crashed and it did a complete system restore. Now I am trying to reload everything. Almost nothing works. I got the card reader installed and it is working, confirmed by mycpap utility and Encore Viewer. But Encore Pro won't load. I suspect it is the SQL database. How do I delete it so I can load Encore Pro. I would like to save the 2 and 1/2 years worth of files. I can't download the database because Encore Pro is not running. I know someone posted the name of the files to download in order to transfer them to another computer without Encore running but I have not been able to find them. Can anyone help. I did a search for SQL and got 50 to 75 hits. Do I need to delete all of them? I went to add and remove programs and can't find anything that looks like the program. The drivers are listed.
I am running XP Home and Encore Pro 1.8i.49 or was.
Can anyone help

Re: Encore Pro Help
I was reading a post on this board when the screen went black and it tried to reboot. My thought was a short power outage. When it tried to reboot it just ran and ran like it was locked in a loop. I tried to restore to an earlier time but it went into a complete system restore. After about an hour I got the operating system working but all the programs are trashed. Most of the DLL files are gone, I think. It took a while to get my DSL resetup. Encore pro was the first thing I tried to reinstall. I would not install. The card driver did install and is working. I think I have Encore Pro on the way to working. It looks like deleting The C:\program Files\Microsoft SQL Server File is going to let it install. I saved the Data fine and in hopes it will have my files so that Pro Analyser will still have data whin I get it to work again. Service Pack 2. I did load Service Pack 3 for a while but I had problems (Not with Encore Pro) and went back and uninstalled it.GumbyCT wrote:Jerry what happened?

I am having to reload all the programs if I can find the disks. Man this is a pain!! The only thing that is in the back of my mind and Goofproof kinda confirmed it. I wonder if the hard drive is going bad. Even though I am running, maybe I am wasting my time and I should get a new hard drive or a new computer. Just don't want to fight Vista and my computer did not come with program disks. I think the operating system is in the restore drive D.

Just an FYI...I got a new Vista64 system a few weeks ago.
It has been an adventure but I have everything running again.
I had to use my advanced degree from Putz University.
I upgraded from a Win2K system.
I have EncorePro, card reader, Mycap card utility running in fine fashion.
Any old programs I have loaded in program compatibility mode and it has worked fine.
I am finding Vista to be fine. Lots of bells and whistles and fun stuff.
Never thought I would go there....but......old dogs.......
Good luck!

Re: Encore Pro Help
What do you do to counteract the 20% of wasted cpu cycles in Vista, I got a new Laptop Core 2 2.4Gb, 7200RPM Drive, Fast ram 4GB, and a GOOD Video CARD, it runs like my old P4-486 2.4 GB system, and I have most of the Crapoloa removed and the fancy deleted. I'm going to get another HD for it and play with Windows 7, but I know it will have most of Windows Vista's bloat too. Re: Encore Pro Help
OK could make this a vote on it question but I am not sure if I know how to do it. If you had a choice would you buy a new machine with Vista or XP. Best Buy here still has 3 machines that can have XP installed on them. They come with Vista Home Premium but for $100 they will load XP Pro. Knowing that sometimes in the future soon everything new will be written for Vista and Windows 7 and more than likely 64 bit, would you still buy XP?
Carbonman, how much did you find that did not run on the 64 bit. How much did you spend to upgrade so it would run on 64 bit?
Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!
Keeping in mind that I am an old dog before computers and I don't know much about them.

Re: Encore Pro Help
I'm sticking with XP SP2 for as long as I possibly can. Last Fall, I ordered a new computer as an upgrade for one of my old clients and in the process, ordered some extra memory for my two identical, 4-year-old Pent. IV systems and extra XP licenses and disks to have stashed away for future needs should they arise. I won't buy any (MS) operating systems until they're at least three years old and have at least one service pack available.

Re: Encore Pro Help
how old is your computer? what are the specs?
it all depends on how much effort you want to put into it. a replacement hard drive is cheap and if you check with the manufacturer you can get the original os disc for about 30.oo. i had to get one for my vista laptop when it crashed. 3 warranty jobs later they listened and changed the hard drive. working good but too slow.
plus if you get the original disc from the mfgr you can always load it onto a new one by partitioning the hard drive at a later time.

Purchased 6/31/2004. 3.00 Ghs Pentum 4, 1024 MB memory, 200GB Hard Drive, 1 CD Drive, 1DVD burner drive, 1 3 1/2" floppy drive. What else can I say about it. It is a HP. Running XP Home. Thought it was a decent machine at the time.

my best friend used to make me crazy. He had to know all the stats.
This guy on album A was the drummer for 2 tunes on album B, and also played
tuba on album C, w/the guitar player from album D.....and that bass needs to be
adjusted and there just not quit enough top end.......
GEEEZ, just listen to the freak'n music....already.
I don't need all the stats. This new system is far from the biggest, baddest out there.
But, it has about 10X the horse power my old 2K system has.
It is fast. At 2.3Ghz, life is too short to be worried about cpu cycles.
Different strokes for different folks.
Has it been frustrating, yes.....it's computers.
I have worked w/computers since DOS 3.3.
Thank heavens for versions. Without them I wouldn't have had a 25yr career.
Jerry, I decided that after 6 good yrs. w/Win2K, it was time to move on.6PtStar wrote: Carbonman, how much did you find that did not run on the 64 bit. How much did you spend to upgrade so it would run on 64 bit?Jerry
Everytime a new version of anything comes out, users bitch.
As a technician, I just smile.......job security.
It is the times we live in. In 6yrs I'll probably be saying the same thing
about whatever is the latest and greatest "version" to hit the market.
I am going to upgrade my mapping software to take advantage of all the
new stuff that has come out. So, I have used mapping software that I got at
the library for the last 6yrs, free....it won't run on Vista.
I'll drop a C note for the latest and greatest that runs on Vista and
does all kinds of really cool stuff. Time to move on.
Life is dynamic.

Re: Encore Pro Help
I was like Den until I decided to pick up a laptop at a back to school sale. Of course it came with Vista Home Prem. and NO I wouldn't pay another $100 for XP. Given the option I might have taken it but they have turned it into a profit center.
Yes, there is some learning to do. Mostly they hide things we knew where they were and yes added some new features. As for speed - I have no problem with mine but am pretty easy to please there. But over all I was surprised at how stable Vista really is.
Nice thing about a laptop is - if there is a power fluctuation - it really is no problem. So Jerry, either a laptop or a UPS. 9 times out of 10 nothing will happen to your hard drive from a power failure. It is that 10th time that will really mess with you.
You can run a chkdsk to check the drive for bad sectors and I certainly would do that.

Re: Encore Pro Help
I did run chkdsk and all it said was recovering lost files. As far as I can tell it did not find any bad sectors. I have not gotten my scanner or my printer to work yet so ther must still be something not right. I don't know a lot about computers and I don't have any computer knowledegable friends that can help me out when something goes really wrong. I figured I would loose more than $100 in software that won't run on Vista. Maybe it is time to make a decision. The shops don't seem to interested in doing the kind of work I need done. All they want to do is to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and give it back. I guess that maybe that would be an option with a new hard drive. I may have to ask and see what to do to get the operating system since my machine did not come withanything except recovery disks. Thanks to everyone for trying to help.
