Day #2 not such a success

Post by cpapguru38 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 6:34 am

After my first night I posted about how it was a utopia and how wonderful I slept and energy I had. Well, last night was hell and I feel worse.

I feel like I'm shoirt of breath this morning, like I need "air" and keep taking deep breaths. Upon wakening this morning I noticed that I felt the need to take a fulll breath in, kind of like a yawn, but each time I did this, it would cause a heart palpitation, or skipped beat I could feel in my chest. So, I checked my pulse and each time I would inhale fully with a deep breath, my heart would stop beating for a few seconds, then resume.

I kept the mask on all night, 7 hours total, often wanting to take it off. I slept, but recall waking up over and over. At least twelve times or more. If you do the math, waking up twelve times during 7 hours does not equate to long periods of sleep.

This morning I feel restless and like I can't get air, like light headed and tired as heck! Could just be anxiety.

My lungs also feel "stretched" and a little sore.

I might have to skip using the unit tonight as I know I have apnea, but I need some sleep. Might have to wait until the weekends to fidget with the device, not sure. But today I feel horible.

Not sure what's going on with the whole stopping heart thing, but it does take a little time for your lungs to get used to cpap. Although, with a pressure of 8 and exhale relief, you should have been fine.

You might take a minute to fill out your equipment list in your profile and show titration and other info in your "additional comments".

I'm usually a "get back on that horse" kind of guy, but with what your describing you might want to check with your dr first...

I had the same problem when I first got my machine. The first few nights were great. Then I would wake up feeling like you do, except for the heart issues. I would feel like I had to take deep breaths and was starved for air the next day. It turns out my nasal passages were getting congested on and off through out the night. When I told my doctor he prescribed Flonase. I only use it at night before bed and have not had a problem since. I have also used Veramyst, when I have coupons to afford it, otherwise it is now generic Flonase. There are other products as well that help with congestion. Talk with your doctor about it, this could be your problem.

It would really help to know what machine you have, what mask and what your pressure settings are. Fill in your "profile" on your member page and it will all show up under your postings automatically when you post anything. It could be an anxiety problem, but it could also be that your settings are off (it happens), or that your masked leaked big time, your humidifier is set too high, or you're a mouth breather (once asleep) and are losing air that way - which would require a different type of mask.
