Dr.'s RX for data capable??

Post by Sleepy Boy » Sun Mar 29, 2009 5:32 pm

I think the machine that I have is like a rental for 3 Yrs. or something. What I would like to know is- Do you need an RX from a sleep Dr. to get a data capable machine? I like the one I have, but all it tells me is how many days & how many hrs of therapy per day. I get a new mask every 3 mos. and I have BC/BS I would like to try getting my nightly data. but not sure on how to get the equipment. Thanks, Larry...

Larry,

Your profile shows that you have the M Series Pro. If you do, in fact, have the Pro model, it IS data capable. It should say which model it is on top of the machine.
But, as to your original question......some do and some don't and some DMEs hand out data-capable machines and some need their arms severely twisted......either with threats of going to another DME or with a prescription from a doctor.

Den: It says Remstar Pro M series. So, is that a machine I could get a card reader for? It does have a smart card in the back. I would like to know my leak rate and other data. I'm not sure what I need to do that..Thanks, Larry..

Yep! The Pro is full data! (The Plus is compliance-only).

Yeah, what LinkC said. All you need is the card reader and software and you'll be set to go. You CAN get some of the details from the LCD screen, too (in the meantime). The following instructions will help you along. You would want to "reset" the data each morning after recording it (wait at least an hour after you shut it down before getting the details), that way, you're looking at only the previous night's details.
You need to go into the setup and make sure this feature is turned ON.

-Show AHI/Leak Feature = On (On/Off)

Den

Menu for M Series Pro

1. Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the power on the back, wait for 2 beeps, release buttons.
2. Press the + key. <- -> buttons move to next field, -/+ keys decrement/increment
3. Check the following field(s):

-Therapy Mode = CPAP

-CPAP Pressure = NN (4 - 20 cm.)

-C-Flex Setting = (options are off, 1, 2 or 3)

-Ramp Time = (options are 05 to 45 min)

-Ramp Start Pressure = cm (Min. 4cm)

-Mask Alert Feature = On (On/Off)

-Auto Off Feature = Off (On/off)

-Show AHI/Leak Feature = On (On/Off)

Press On/Off button to exit.

==========Resetting LCD Display Data====================

To reset LCD Therapy data (does NOT erase any data from SmartCard):

1. Hold down the (<-) (->) buttons while plugging in the power on the back,
wait for 2 beeps or 5 seconds, release buttons.
2. Press the (->) key and navigate to Therapy screen.
3. Press and HOLD down the (-) minus key for 5 seconds and/or until therapy data is reset to Zero.
4. Press the (->) key to scroll back to main menu, press (+) key to enter Setup or
On/Off button to exit.
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

Den & Link C: Thanks, you guys are great!! I got my data re-set so I can check it each day. I will put the #'s on here so someone can tell me what they mean. The guy that came to the house to set my equipment up- told me "not to mess with those buttons" I'm not sure what they should be set to. I turned the mask alert "on" and the AHI/Leak feature "on" and reset all the therapy Hrs. So I should be set now.. Thanks so much!!! Larry..

Larry,

If you're prone to mask leaks and the alarm noises wake you up (which they're supposed to)......and you don't like that, you can turn that feature off. I never liked that feature and have always had it turned off.....along with the "Auto Off" feature. I figure if I'm leaking (which eventually happens), the machine will still keep pumping air and I'll keep sleeping (which I do).

And since when has "Don't mess with those buttons" ever meant anything? Sounds like telling a child....."Don't you DARE eat all of those vegetables on your plate."

Well, being as I wear hearing aids-I didn't think the mask alarm would do me much good. And I had already "played" with all the buttons. The secret is to hold the two down together while you plug the power into the back. Boy is that guy gonna be mad when he finds out I reset everything!! Thanks again.. Larry
