Throwing up?

Post by Juliebove » Wed Mar 25, 2009 3:12 am

I'm new here. Been using my CPAP machine for about 2 1/2 weeks. At first, my blood sugar fell to pretty much normal range. I'm diabetic. But now it is up way too high. I don't know if I am sick with something or what. I've had pneumonia and bronchitis.

I do know that since starting on the machine for the most part I have been more exhausted than ever. I did feel more alert for the first two nights even though I only managed a couple of hours per night with the machine.

But tonight my stomach doesn't feel so well and I fear I might throw up. I do have gastroparesis. That's damage to the vagus nerve of the stomach caused by diabetes. Because of it I have delayed stomach emptying. I can't remember the last time this gave me a problem, but it could be doing it now. I ate more salad and raw veggies than I usually do. Then again, there is a stomach bug going around and daughter was complaining that her stomach hurt.

So what do you do if you think you might throw up? Stay up? Just not sleep at all? Try to sleep with the mask on (I have full face) and hope you don't puke into the machine? Or just sleep without the machine?

I think you should see a doctor ASAP, and not be looking here for help when you have a serious condition. Cpap alone is not likely to be responsible for your symptoms, or if it is in some indirect way, let the doctor work it out, but do see one as I suspect other things are going on that Cpap is only incidental to.

I have yet to vomit without first making it from the bed to the bathroom. I've never had a mask that I couldn't get off within a couple of seconds. If you don't think you'll be able to get the mask off in time, you need to sleep without the machine(in a recliner if possible) and speak to your doctor. If this is an ongoing issue you need to make sure your MD understands your concerns.

I can usually not make it to the bathroom in time. I sleep with a bowl by my bed. I did throw up today. I believe it is some bug and not the gastroparesis because daughter has similar symptoms.

I did on my sleep study

They woke me up 6:30 am, I was all disoriented discombobulated and throughly confuzzled...seems it has been a long time since stage 4 sleep and I didn't recognize it. My stomach was all queezy and such

well she got the wiring unplugged and I showered all the grease out of my hair, I made it to the parking lot and hurled, well projectile hurling that is...pretty much a spray . I was glad no-one was around, and even happier my stomach just had clear fluids and no "chunks" to leave for evidence., oh and it had rained so other then a strange smell near where I had parked no one was the wiser

but I would NOT want to hurl into my mask, EWWWW

fighter pilots hurl into their masks at times I guess, its made to evacuate it somewhere? I would think the vomit wouldn't go up the hose into the machine, prolly the action of vomiting would open your mouth wide open and create a huge leak and the vomit would spray out the sides...but again I wouldn't want to prove my theory right or wrong.
