Don't you just love the smell of a new xPAP?

Post by S-Dubya » Sat Mar 21, 2009 11:17 am

I picked up my new gear on Thursday. I am very pleased. I have a REMstar Auto M Series with A-Flex and the accompanying humidifier. I also got a new Hybrid mask. The DME that is affiliated with the sleep lab I used does not carry the Hybrid so my doctor recomended another DME that turned out to be great. They got my Rx from the Dr on Wednesday afternoon and had me in their office by 1:00 Thursday.

I love the new machine! I never had much trouble with plain, old CPAP, but the difference between basic CPAP and the auto/A-Flex is amazing. It took a few minutes to get used to the pressuring changing as I inhale and exhale, but it didn't take long and I feel like I get even more restful sleep now.

I also love the smaller, more compact unit with the integrated humidifier. Overall, its a great step up. Thanks for all the tips and advice as I was researching making the change.

Ahh! I remember it well, the day my new M Series Auto w/AFLEX came! Seems like yesterday. Congratulations on acquiring the "dream machine!" Enjoy!

When you get tired of that new xPAP machine smell perhaps you could tape one of these suckers over the air inlet port

The only machine I ever used that had an odor was both M-series. I ran my new one in my bedroom for 12 hours after I washed the humidifier container good and left the heat off and no odor since. I didn't fill the tank the other day and awakened to an odor from heating up the empty chamber-yuk.

P.S. - Rip - I bet I was right about the Intellipap not coming close to beating the M-series - I can't wait for the results.

That's not a stretch, the defending product has beaten the challenger in every cpap.com product challenge except the one where they pit a premium hose against a generic one.

In my opinion, I believe it is because their methodology is flawed. Over time, people tend to acclimate to the deficiencies of the product they are using; deficiencies in the new product will be judged more harshly.

There should not be a defender and a challenger. There should be product A and product B, and the challenge should be split between product A users trying product B, and product B users trying product A.

I was merely borrowing the old phrase used when purchasing a new car, but new masks usually have a "new" smell for a few days.

Two nights into using the M-Series and I am very happy man. Two great nights of sleep. I checked the AHI this morning and it was 0.5. I'm no expert, but I think that's pretty good.

I got my Auto from a lady who ran the blower for 40 hours only, but in a house full of potpourri. lord it took weeks to get rid of that smell.

Next time consider Fabreze--It will even kill skunk odor! Never seen anything like it. You can spray a "skunked" dog with it and 15 minutes later the dog can sleep right next to you and you will not care!

No, I don't like the smell and my lungs didn't like the fumes. I ran my new machine for several hours before wearing it.
