Inverter to run CPAP machine
Inverter to run CPAP machine
We have just purchased a Fisher Paykel SleepStyle 200Auto series CPAP and would like to use it in our caravan which is a 12 volt system. What size inverter to convert 12v to 240V considering the CPAP uses o.8 amp - 1.8amp max surge.

Re: Inverter to run CPAP machine
I bought a 400 watt inverter (~$40) from Harbor Freight to run my Resperonics M series machine and it works just fine. I just read through the owners manual for your machine (F&P Sleepstyle 234) and it states it need a 200 watt continious, 300 watt surge inverter to run. No mention of a true sine wave inverter, so a modified sine wave inverter should work just fine.
Re: Inverter to run CPAP machine
Check to see if your machine has a 12-volt adapter cord available. I know that there is one available for the M-Series machine that I have. It is much more efficient to run off of 12 volts than it is to convert DC to AC with an inverter, then convert the AC back down to DC in the machine. Plus it saves you from having to buy an inverter, and saves you from having an inverter failure.
