Post by mikemoran » Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:57 pm

I noticed on the other boards people talking aobut the new Freestyle from Innomed. Is it that new and has anyone had any luck with it? Ready to just plug something up my nose and say the heck with it here

like many interfaces....
some people love it, some people hate it.
Basically it seems to boil down to if it fits you perfectly, it can be wonderful, if it doesn't fit PERFECTLY it can be hell on earth.

Unfortunately it doesn't fit me....

What's the gist of opinion on other boards? Are there people there who say it works well for them?

I think the Freestyle was a product that got taken back to the drawing board after it was release, tinkered with and re-released (fall or winter 2004?). So I'd be a bit more interested in what recent purchasers of the product have to say about it.

Looks too good to be true, though: How could those prongs not get pulled out of the nose with even a modest tug, likely whenever one rolled over on the tube.

There is a long thread on the other board and it seems to be the "Dream" interface for some. It seems that the latest mod helped reduce the noise problem. another thing they seem to talk about is Innomed's willingness to provide you a different size at no cost if it was sized wrong the first time.

Guess I will give it a try and see if my nose is a perfect fit. I really don't mind something up my nose. On my Breeze i use the Large Dilator pillows. Will let everyone know how it works.

Please keep us posted.

Was that thread at Talkingaboutsleep?

Perhaps, because the prongs are not connected, one can choose a different size for each nostril. Some people haven't been able to use pillow/prong type masks because of nostril size differences.

Yes it was theTAS board. I don't see why it couldn't be two different sizes. good idea.

Checked out the various positive comments about freestyle on talk about sleep today.

I've been tempted to try adding a thin layer of silicone bathtub caulk to nasal do-dads that aren't quite large enough. Or maybe use the caulk or something similar to glue on a thin layer of soft silicone (perhaps a bit of silicone scar reduction pad)? But it might be difficult to get anything to stick to silicone.

I think the ideal interface might be something very similar to the freestyle but with custom molded nostril inserts that are fitted to the relatively large hollow area inside the tip of the nose. And it doesn't seem like it would necessarily be that difficult or expensive -- perhaps could even be packaged in a kit for home fitting (but maybe that cannot happen because these are FDA approved medical devices and have to be consistently manufactured to the specifications that the FDA approved).
