Post by Hetron » Sun Mar 15, 2009 7:01 pm

I have a chance to buy a use ResMed VPAP III machine. Unit has 400+ hours and price is $200. I want to have for a backup machine. The price sounds right to me. What can you tell me about the performance of this unit? --thanx

At $200 a bargain with so few hours on it. It is a top-of-the-line Bievel model from Resmed only recently displaced by the smaller S8 Vpap units.
It has an excellent set of adjustments (many more than the older Bipap models it competed with. The blower whine can irritate some
people - my wife would always complain about it.

The machine is data capable & only needs a null-modem cable to extract the data from the machine if you have the
AutoScan or newer ResScan software.

Do you know if it is a plain Vpap III or an S/T model (not that you really need S/T capability).

Good luck

That's an excellent deal,imho, Hetron.

Sometimes the level or type of sound each machine makes is a matter of luck of the draw -- what kind of sound that particular machine (not the model, necessarily...the actual machine) leaves with from the manufacturing line.

I've used two S7 VPAP III's. One was quieter than the other, at the same settings.

Without software, you can still get plenty of useful information each morning from the LCD window.

I think you've found a very good buy in a very good bilevel machine.

Hetron, is your profile correct? You presently have the Respironics M Series Plus w/C-Flex and a data card module? You do know that that Plus can't provide anything but compliance data, don't you?

Thanx dsm, Rested Gal & Slinky.

I think I'll buy it.

Note to Slinky, I know my REMstar Plus M Series only supplies "hours" data. I'm just learning about the machines that use the software. I've only been using CPAP since last June. The doc said my last sleep study in November was great. He increased my pressure from 12 to 13. Since I've been sleeping with the CPAP, my blood pressure has been lower and I 've been taken off two meds. My blood sugar is more stable and I've cut my insulin dose in half. I've lost weight and my venious insuficiency in my legs is super. Oh, yes, I sleep better, don't fall asleep during the day and don't fall off chairs. I guess it's working.

However, I would still like to explore the apena data you can get from a machine like the VPAP III. Hopefully the people on this board will help me understand.

Thanx again all!

WOW! You've done GREAT on CPAP!! What wonderful health results for you! Oh, I understand and don't blame you at all for wanting a fully data capable CPAP. I just noticed you hadn't been a member too long and you mentioned your Plus having a data card and .... wasn't sure if you were aware the Plus wasn't fully data capable.

Hetron, since you're using a cpap machine and are thinking about the VPAP III mainly to get more data, I guess you do know that the VPAP III is a bilevel machine (often called "bipap") -- it's not a CPAP machine, although you can set it to work like a CPAP by setting the inhale/exhale pressure the same, if it turns out that you like (or do better with) CPAP at one pressure rather than a bilevel's separate inhale/exhale pressure settings.

I think you'll like bilevel though. Feels more like natural breathing to many people, including me.

Hetron

Rested Gal has a good point

The Vpap III can run as a cpap & still provide you with a wealth of nightly data.

Here is data off one of the several Vpap IIIs I have used (all had that whine) & this data
is available no matter what mode you run it in. But as RG says, you may be presently surprised at
how good bilevel feels BUT I want to warn you to ask us here on how to take your cpap settings
and translate them to the Vpap III as getting it wrong can have unforseen consequences, but there
are enough here who know what to avoid.

Cheers

DSM

#1 this is running in CPAP mode - NOTE the SpO2 data shown was off my SpO2 machine &
not the Vpap III.

#2
In Bilevel mode epap=10 & ipap =13

Again please note that the SpO2 data is off my SpO2 machine.

DSM,
I have a friend here in town who has a VPAP III is interested in looking closer at his data. (Not ST or ST-A)
If I were to go to RadioShack down the street, would this be what I would look for?

What's the difference between the VPAP III and the malibu?

The VPAP III is a bilevel machine. One set pressure for inhaling (IPAP) and a lower set pressure for exhaling (EPAP.)

The Malibu is an autotitrating bilevel machine -- can be set for a range of pressures, to autotitrate (vary the pressures) while still operating as a bilevel using a lower EPAP and higher IPAP.

Your double note is responding to a 10 yr old post... and is yelling at everyone by being in all caps. Don't you have anything better to do?

Oh well, by putting your address out here I guess you're looking for trouble.
