New Gear = Major Success, Thanks to you all

Post by LouC » Sat Mar 14, 2009 10:23 am

Got my sleep doctor to upgrade my machine to a Respironics Auto M and suggestions for a new mask. After 2 weeks of harassing the DME (we can't read your birthdate on the script, computers are down, oh we have to order that... ) I finally got a Swift 2 and the new machine.

First night out I got 7 hours on the gear (best I had before was 4 hrs) Pressure averaging 10 (not the 14 from the sleep study). I can sleep on my side with the Swift2. No dry mouth, I've not needed any chin strap (couldn't find one to fit my big ol' melon head anyway...). Still waking up 3-4 times a night for hose management. I need less humidity with the Swift than with my Quattro, but the Respironics integrated still isn't enough. So, back to the F&P 150...

Thanks to all of the suggestions, information, FAQ's, and advice from all of you. It was a great help in getting the right gear for me. I begin 7 weeks of neck radiation for thyroid cancer on Monday, but at least now I think I can get some rest.

Best of luck in the cancer therapy, Lou. I'm glad you've got the right equipment for your CPAP therapy.
Take care.

Lou,

Good luck with your cancer therapy. Sleeping well will be a major adjunct to healing.

(One year ago I was preparing for surgery for endometrial cancer... so far, all of my follow-ups have been negative, so I only have four years and four months to go before being declared cancer free!)

Good Luck. The right equipment really helps. The wrong equipment, and boy does that vary from person to person, is a true nightmare!

My first mask was a Quattro. It fit OK, but I had bad dry mouth, couldn't find a way to sleep on my side (I still have it).
The Swift2 has been great from the get go. Comfortable, light weight. I still have to fiddle a bit during the night as I leave the hose "dangle". It's a little freaky when I first put it on. My machine starts at 4 -- that's just not enough air for me. Once the pressure builds it's great. Minimal leaks & noise at 10 Cm. The straps don't rub anywhere near my neck scars. As with the Quattro, light strap tightness seals better, and is more comfortable.
