breathing question...........

Post by jnag698 » Fri Mar 13, 2009 9:03 pm

I"m a newbie. I have a Respironics CPAP with a nasal mask. It's hard to breathe IN. It seems like my inspiratory cycle is longer than normal to get my required volume. My pressure is set at 4. BTW......... how does one increase the pressure setting? I can't find any help in the owner's manual. Thanks.

At a pressure of 4, I can imagine you are having trouble breathing....who set the pressure?

I don't know how to change the pressure on the Respironics, but I would certainly be contacting my doctor about that pressure.
Also, what kind of mask are you using?

Which specific machine? Please fill out your profile with the exact equipment you're using. The name of the machine should be on the top of it. You say your pressure setting is 4......but that could either be your starting Ramp pressure setting or your actual pressure setting (which would probably be too low).

When you look at your equipment, check it says C-Flex or A-Flex on it.
These are comfort features - the cause a slight drop in the pressure when you start exhaling, but the pressure comes back full force before you've finished exhaling. This is very bothesome for for some people - they feel as though should exhale faster - and get into a vicious cycle.

Check of your machine has C-Flex or A-Flex on - and turn it off.

More info about CFlex can be found here: cflex.respronics.com
