any comfortable nasal masks for small nose

Post by Catatrina » Thu Mar 12, 2009 2:26 am

i am relatively new cpap user since 9/5/08, i have tried different full masks like res med Quatro, ultra mirage; i recently was told that i could try a nasal mask by itself; since fitting has always been a problem for me either i have had chaffing, blistering from mask and leaks, etc i also have a small nose; i also find that the Respironics cpap machine [A-Flex] is loud even for myself let alone my neighbors in my apartment building; [it's an old building so anyone on top or below you can hear snoring, etc....] recently neighbors above moved out after i moved in 3 months ago and when I would put my machine on I would hear a lot more noise frm neighbors above and even comments like oh shit. so it is hard for neighbors but its also hard on me all around. Since i have had a few good weeks on the cpap i know it works and i feel better so i am not about to give up yet, i am not sure if its tough for most women versus men? i just would like to find a nasal mask that could work for me that would be fairly easy to adjust to, any ideas out there; i am new at this, finally got a computer so it helps to communicate to the outer world life as a cpap blop

Hi, Catatrina. Welcome to the forum!!

Sorry to say I don't have any good thoughts for you... I use a nasal pillow mask (Opus 360) and a backup full face mask (Hybrid). I just wanted to say hi and bump your note to the top. I'm thinking since it was posted at 3:30 this morning, most people didn't see it, and that's why you've had no answers. Hopefully, others will have suggestions for you about nasal masks. Good luck.

I have a small nose, that is very flexible. I use the Nasal Aire II. It is the most comfortable mask I can find. It doesn't sit on the nose or cheeks, so you don't have those pressure point issues.

If you'd like to know more about it, click on the link below in my signature block.

I would also urge you to look at the Swift LT. I'm hearing lots of good things about it here on the forum. I also encourage you, if you go that route, to look into the pads made by Padacheek. Apparently they really help with the comfort and fit of the Swift LT. http://www.padacheek.com

Cheers,
Babs

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

I also have a small nose. I use the swift lt for her and I love it. It is very comfotable and not at all bulky. I am a side sleeper and it seems to stay im place pretty well. Also the "for her" comes with little microfleece covers for the mask sides. (at least mine did).

I really am comfortable with the Flexifit 407.
by contrast, I couldn't tolerate the feel of the swift LT nasal pillow.
and the full face quattro is too damn noisy for me and my sweetie.

That's so interesting about the noise level.

I use the full face Quattro w/ the ResMed S8 AutoSet II and it is very quiet. Even my husband says so. Maybe it has to do with pressure setting. Mine is set at 5-10 cm.

Catatrina you might want to check out the Flexifit 406 it is a petite so it really depends on how small your nose is. Here is a link to it on Cpap.com I have this and if you do have very small features it will probably work for you.

I would be totally surprised if your neighbors could hear your machine. I have the M-series with Aflex and it is much quieter than my ResMed Elite S8. Do you use ramping and what kind of pressure do you use. In any case if they can hear it in another apartment I would think something is wrong with the machine, but I would rather hear the machine than to hear you snore!

Hello there ---I would recommend the SWIFT LT "for her" version of the nasal pillow mask. I also don't have a big nose and I use the Swift LT for her and I love it!!!! It comes with the petite size nasal pillows as well as the smal size. It is so very comfortable, very light weight too and you can even watch TV with it on. I am a strict side sleeper and it seems to stay in place pretty well while I toss and turn every night. I have a leak rate of ZERO!!! YEAH!! . Also the "for her" version comes with little blue microfleece covers for the mask sides. (at least mine did). You can also get covers at PAD A CHEEK website as well --she has great well made ones there. Hope this helps,
Carrie

frenchie and sleeplessinaz - Where did you get your "Swift LT for "Her" with the microfleece covers added? Do you know if all the Swift LT for Her come with the covers?

and the ResMed Elite is pretty darned quiet...Both hubby and I have one, and even with both running you can't hear them more than a foot or so away, and then you have to concentrate.....if your machine is so loud that your neighbors can hear it, there's got to be something wrong with it. I was using the Mirage Micro (in small, it also comes extra small I think), and really liked it. Then I found the Swift LT for her and love that even more.....

Yes, they do...it's one of the "features" of the mask.

I use respironics comfortgel nasal mask as I have small nose as well. The comfortgel is the only mask I ever used & I love it.
Thanks
