Resmed EliteII vs Resmed Escape?

Post by brucelegs » Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:40 pm

I got a call from my prospective DME telling me that have a referral from my ENT and to call to set up an appt.. I saw the ENT after my original sleep study to rule out any physical issues. He wrote the referral to the neurologist who intrepreted the study. I have since gone in for my titration and have the appt with the neurologist tomorrow morning. I was a bit confused as to why the ENT called the DME with a prescription, but I called the DME to get info on the prescription he wrote. He wrote it for the Respronics I was interested in with c-flex (good), but I also wanted to look into the Resmed Elite II. She said yes they have that one (and they have the new humidifier the H4i (good). She mentioned another machine the Resmed Escape - now I have more research to do. Out of further curiosity I asked what pressure the ENT wrote and was told it was 10. Hmmm, according to the sleep tech she thought based on my titration night I would be looking around 15 (the ENT did not have this info when he wrote the original prescription I believe). He also wrote it for Comfort Gel nasal mask (got one of those already through the generosity of the sleep tech). Obviously I want it re-written as mask of patients choice, especially since I want to give the Swift LT pillows a try.

I know I'm blabbling, but now I am really looking forward to the appt with the neurologist tomorrow morning. I have asked for the results of the full study, but I have not received that yet - hopefully tomorrow I can get that. In the meantime Elite II vs Escape?

Elite II -- yes.

Escape (or even the Escape II ) -- no.

Escape II and Elite II treat exactly the same and both have and exhalation pressure relief feature called EPR. The older Escape without a "II" in its name does not have EPR.

The Elite II is better than the Escape II, however, IF you are the least bit interested in seeing data about how your treatment is going. The Elite II can show you how many apneas and hypopneas are still sneaking through with treatment. One of the most important things it can show you what your overnight leak rate is...useful info if your mask is leaking excessively (people can sleep through huge mask leaks, btw) or if you are mouthbreathing and not wearing a full face mask to cover mouth and nose together.

The Escape and Escape II can't show any of that info. They show only "hours of use" (compliance) in their LCD window and on the Smart Card.

Go for the Elite II with the H4i humidifier (not the older H3i humidifier.)

thanks RG, I just went back and read a bunch of posts using the search function. No, No Escape for me! Why would a doctor even think of writing a prescription without some kind of exhale function? why do companies even continue to make them?

I am really looking forward to my appointment tomorrow at 10AM. I have my prescription written out - all the dr. has to do is copy and sign off and I am on my way ! If he won't write the prescription the way I want it , I will just get my primary care doctor to write it. If the DME I have chosen can't or won't accommodate me, I have 7 others who are on my in-network list. I just want to get the machine I want, a mask that works (even if it takes more than a few tries),the software I need to see how effective the therapy and take control.

In my experience, the initial mask you receive is 100% your choice. You are never "forced" to use a particular mask. Tell whoever to setting you up with the equipment to show you a variety of masks. Then try them on with the pressure going.

Well I can tell you that I for one do not need or use the EPR feature, My pressure setting is lower than yours --I am at a "7" so I am glad that they make a machine where I can turn off the EPR feature. The sound of it going on and off with every breathe was annoying to me too --so good luck with the ELITE II---that is a GREAT CHOICE of machines!!!

Does the Escape II have EPR ? - I had thught it didn`t but may be confusing it with the older model.

It seems you never encountered my DME.
