I visited the DME place today to look at machines. I told them I wanted the the ResMed S8 Elite II machine.
Do I get the card reader or USB to download to my computer? I know I have to order the software. I'm a MAC user and I will be able to run Windows so that does help. I have no idea how to do this, but I will ask for help later! Do I actually need the software, or can I tell what is going on by looking at the screen on the machine.
I am SO excited to get my machine!
Thanks
Sue

Generally DMEs don't provide card readers or USB adapters for ResMed machines. You buy those yourself.muirwoodsue wrote:I visited the DME place today to look at machines. I told them I wanted the the ResMed S8 Elite II machine.

In my opinion, you don't need the software when starting out. You can tell enough of what's going on by looking at the lcd screen on the top of the machine. Later you may decide you want computer software and either the card reader or the USB adapter, so you can see the duration of the events (apneas and hypopneas) and the exact times at night that your events or leaks occur. But one of the nice things about your machine is the ease of getting nightly data you can log for yourself on paper or enter manually into your own spreadsheet software, if you want. I say get used to seeing the data on the machine's lcd screen for a while before you decide whether you need ResScan software.
Re: Card reader or USB for S8 Elite II machine?
I have RESMED CPAP original equipment CARD READER & SOFTWARE. I flunked CPAP 101 and have returned the RESMED CPAP machine and have no use for the card reader or software.
I DO NOT deal in software or card readers. This is my own personal copy an dreader which took me a lot of time and trouble to find and obtain.

If you can pick the machine you might want to ask for the S8 AutoSet II APAP machine - you get more and the machines look identical and both a wisper quiet. Whether you need the software is up to you based on how much you need to know and how involved you want to be in your treatment. Selecting the card reader or the USB also depends on where your machine is in relation to your computer. If you use a USB the machine has to be next to your computer to load data. If the machine and computer are not next to each other, you might prefer the card reader.muirwoodsue wrote:I visited the DME place today to look at machines.
