was doing so well, are relapses common

Post by vaderboi » Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:43 am

So two weeks, I was feeling great. I hadn't felt that way in a while. I had switched over to the liberty mask to help the nerve in my forehead. I was sleeping 8 hrs and feeling great the next day. Then I started to slip and decline last week. I thought it was my pillow knocking my mask off until I woke up with my mouth below my mask. I drop my chin and open my mouth when I sleep apparently. That made my therapy ineffective. So I've gone back to my quattro with some padding under the forehead strap. I ordered a medium in the zzz ffm since the small last time was no big enough. It should arrive today or tomorrow.

The last few nights of sleep have been toss and turn. Some of my symptoms are back. Is it common to feel great one week and hen horrible the next?

According to your profile, you have a data-capable machine.
If you're getting the results in your LCD screen.....what do your "numbers" tell you?

My AHI, AI and HI have all been under 5, usually 2.6 or less, but my leak rate has been all over the place. My worse with the liberty was 1.46 L/s, my best was .56L/s with the liberty. My worse with the quattro was my best with the liberty .56L/s. My best with the quattro has been .09L/s. The quattro doesn't let my mouth slip down below the mask like the liberty does.

I hadn't been checking daily with the liberty because I had been feeling so well. Until I started not feeling well again. It seems like whatever gains I made with the quattro, I lost with the liberty.

To answer your original question......yes, our therapy results can vary from time to time. The AMOUNT (lack) of sleep can do it for me. However, it appears you've got some serious leaking going on that's probably the culprit.
Do you have facial hair (beard, goatee, etc.?)
Do you have your mask selector in the machine set for the proper setting?

Trying to use the wrong size or wearing a mask too tight can also cause serious leaking, too.

I have a mustache and goatee that I've trimmed to fit in the mask (quattro). The mask setting in the machine is for the full, which is what is the setting for both the quattro and liberty. If I sleep with the liberty and have it fitted properly, then my mouth slips below the mask after I fall asleep. I've woken up with the bottom of my mask in my mouth (and I used the large mask). The mouth slip doesn't happen with the quattro. There's enough room and give that when my mouth slips, it's still in the mask.
