Thats my concern. I don't know what else the gloves have handled, and I breath through that equipment.....It just spins me up anyway that they even swab them...most laptops don't get swabbed anymore and it seems like those are more likely to be carrying explosives than a CPAP....It's respiratory equipment for crying out loud....If you were worried about dirty gloves touching your machine and transferring germs...I'm sure they'd understand you requesting they put on clean gloves for the process, and as others have said, you could carry Clorox wipes with you.

Re: Airport Security
Well the upside is after you fly you know it is not about to blow up in your house.Debjax wrote:Thats my concern. I wasn't worried about it ... the TSA regs apparently state that is the procedurerocketdork wrote:If you were worried about dirty gloves touching your machine and transferring germs...I'm sure they'd understand you requesting they put on clean gloves for the process, and as others have said, you could carry Clorox wipes with you.

From my experience, you'll have no hassles carrying it on in South Africa, certainly less than in the US.Mike77 wrote:I will be interested to see how traveling with my CPAP goes. My first trip with it will be from the US to South Africa. I'll be carrying it the whole way.
Re: Airport Security
I've had mine swabbed on a regular basis when I fly. The only airport that doesn't always do it is Calgary for me.
Calgary would take one look at the bag with it's Respironics logo and just send it through xray.

Re: Airport Security
Yes you treat it just like a laptop, keep it with you though. Don't check it unless you want the ground crew to use it as football.

Re: Airport Security
Yes, but WHY? What is it about our machines that is so potentially dangerous? I don't like people mucking about with equipment I'm going to be breathing through.the TSA regs apparently state that is the procedure

Re: Airport Security
Because it's a container that is large enough to hold explosives and it's not in your checked baggage where a) it wouldn't be in the plane cabin and b) it doesn't go through the much higher x-ray dose of the checked baggage machines.Debjax wrote:Yes, but WHY? Re: Airport Security
The only Canadian airport that swabbed my unit was in Ottawa...Edmonton, Calgary, and Toronto all knew like you said that it was a CPAP and treated it like a laptop...no swabbing. Except Ottawa, I am sure they had no idea what it was.cflame1 wrote:I've had mine swabbed on a regular basis when I fly. The only airport that doesn't always do it is Calgary for me.

My laptop fits that description just as well...and it hasn't been swabbed in years.mindy wrote:Because it's a container that is large enough to hold explosives and it's not in your checked baggage where a) it wouldn't be in the plane cabin and b) it doesn't go through the much higher x-ray dose of the checked baggage machines.Debjax wrote:Yes, but WHY? And I'll bet the TSA agents see *many* more laptops than CPAP machines!Debjax wrote: My laptop fits that description just as well...and it hasn't been swabbed in years.

Re: Airport Security
probable, but that would mean "many" more chances for someone to rig one of those....it still frosts me....mindy wrote:And I'll bet the TSA agents see *many* more laptops than CPAP machines!Debjax wrote: My laptop fits that description just as well...and it hasn't been swabbed in years.
