What does it mean to "fail" CPAP?

What does it mean to "fail" CPAP?

I've seen that phrase several times here and don't understand it. I'd appreciate it if someone would explain it.

I have heard ..
if you go from straight CPAP to an Auto .. it is considered "failing CPAP" to obtain an Auto
if you go from an Auto to BiPap .. it could be considered "failing CPAP" to obtain the BiPap

pure guess on my part

or plain, do not use your CPAP ..

It means you are still feeling rotten, not getting any decent sleep, still have a high AI and AHI, despite a decent leak rate and faithful attempts to use the CPAP every night for as many hours as possible.
