Thanks for all the great info- I just made myself a hose cover, but it's not long enough. I think i need to actually measure this time, LOL. And B, thanks for the directions on how to make one!

I made my hose cover too. I bought 1 yrd of nice flannel from WalMart, cut out the size I needed and sewed it up. I pulled it over the hose and fastened the ends with a cloth rubber band. When I need to wash the flannel I just undo the rubberbands and slide the cover off the hose. I love it, I have no more rainout, I can pull the hose in the bed with me and dont have to worry about the cold hose touching my skin. I made one for hubby too, he gets his CPAP machine friday, 2/20/2009. I got my machine thru our insurance and he will be getting his thru the VA.

It's just so CHEAP and EASY to make one yourself . . . and fleece is very cheap right now. I got 1/2 yard for a couple dollars. Anyone or their wife or friend with a sewing machine can sew up a 6 ft. "tube" of fabric in 5 minutes max!

Tell her to make the "doubled fabric" a minimum of 4 inches wide. (That will allow room to slide the hose through the fleece, using a small plastic baggie on the rubber end so it will slide through easily). Then just rubberband the ends! And you'll have a good sized piece left over that you can use to cut out "pads" for your headgear/straps with no sewing (just place doubled over pieces where you need them). I also throw a piece of fleece over the blue lights on my machine to dim the room more.

Easy!

To clarify my recent post . . . in order to make a LONG ENOUGH hose cover, you'll need to cut out TWO 9-inch wide pieces of fleece (that will give you 4+ inches when doubled). The reason you need TWO pieces is that fleece bolts are 54" wide. In order to get a long enough "tube" (ie, 6 ft to accommodate your 6 ft hose) , you'll have to FIRST sew those two pieces together. Then cut the resulting 9 inch wide fleece 6 feet long (or more if your tube is longer).

Duuuudddddde...... I'm tellin' ESC and the girls on the Sewing Academy that you MESSED UP A SIMPLE RECTANGLE.

BTW, when I have done this (yes folks, I HAVE done this), I just sewed another piece onto the end. Last time I discovered there was a gap in coverage, I didn't even bother to sew. I just wrapped a chunk of fleece around the gap, and secured it with a couple of strips of velcro one wrap. Been there ever since.

Isn't Velcro great, Victoria? Don't you wish you could use it MORE?

BTW.... How can we work the word AUTHENTIC into this discussion? Oh, and how many threads per square inch in the fleece you used? And did you buy it from Needle and Thread?

LOL,
Babs

I have 2 layers for my cpap hose. 1st layer, 4 tube socks w/the toes slit open. 2nd layer, walmart fleece folded for dbl. thickness. All held on with velcro wire ties in assorted colors. Doesn't look like medical equipment and you don't have to have a sewing machine. Is easy on/off and I don't have rain out. Be sure to use clean tube socks or it may take a couple of extra drops of pur-sleep for aroma control.

The nicest thing about the Resmed cover is the zipper. It is made of nylon and way too tight. So tight it makes the hose stiff and not easily bendable. If you want to add anything under the cover for more insulation - forget it. Yes, that tight.

The Respironics hose cover - does not have a zipper but it made wide enuff you can put it over another cover and doesn't make the hose stiff. Dreamer - try adding the Repti wire BEFORE slipping the cover on.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Padacheeks hose covers.

Yeah, it does make the hose a LITTLE stiffer, but after several weeks of me winding up the hose with the cover on it, and stuffing it into my overnight bag, I must say I don't notice that it's any stiffer than if I had just a fleece cover on it.

But he's right - it's too tight to put anything under it. I've contemplated covering it with another fleece cover, just for grins, but haven't done that yet.

Cheers,
B.

I bought a quality fleece and made my own. My hose hangs from the back board of my bed. Besides helping with rainout, the fleece cover eliminates any noise in movement of the hose on the wood.

Babette,

Thanks for the recommendation. I now know, kinda, how Al Gore feels.

That's after about 2 weeks' use. Wait till you've had it for 6 months or so....

A hose cover is not enough to keep my hose from raining on me - but covering my heated hose and the narrow tube that leads to the mask are essential to keep my hose from raining on me.

If you're not used to sewing, I'd recommend buying a couple yards of it. That way it will be long enough to cover the hose, plus you have some extra in case you mess up the first try or two.
