Don't put your CPAP on the floor.

Someone PM'd me, and it didn't register right away, but storing your machine on the ground, especially if you have carpet is a bad idea. I am not a scientific guy, but basically the static electricity is bad for the CPAP. (So I have been told by the old school techs and DME's)

Sorry to who PM'd me for not remembering which person it was that mentioned this, and for not saying something sooner.

To heck with the static, I know what's accumulated under that carpet. About 10 years ago, due to my lung problems, we started stripping the carpet out of our house and replacing with wood or tile floors. The bedrooms are the last rooms with carpet and those go as soon as we can afford it. However, I SAW what was under (and in) the carpeting when we pulled it up. There is no amount of vacuuming or carpet cleaning that gets it all up....

There is no way I am going set a machine that is going to suck air within inches of the carpet and push it into my lungs. NO filter is that good.

Same here, the first thing I did when I bought my own house was tear out all the carpet and replace with wood or vinyl. Wall to wall carpet is so incredibly disgusting. I have no clue why it is so popular.

'Cause carpet does some soundproofing and its warmer than wood or tile or linoleum.

And once you pull a carpet up and see how DISGUSTING .... you forget it helps to soundproof and is warmer!!! (And is cheaper)

Hi--I have a computer CPU/ monitor riser --plastic --that I set on the floor and then place my cpap machine on the plastic riser. It keeps it off my night stand and it is lower than my head---so it works for me. You can get these at Office Max. They are perfect!!!

Hubby is building me a new nightstand that will have multiple layers, think ladder with wide and deep "steps" where the back legs go straight up and the front slant at an angle holding the "shelves" up. One shelf for the alarm clock, one for the CPAP and small flashlight, 3 or 4 more for whatever I need them for (books, Bibles, etc.)....I am so going to love that. Right now the CPAP sits on my "shower chair" that is used when I mess one or the other of my legs / ankles / feet (there IS a reason mother did not name me Grace)

Hmmm, now you have me thinking about where my CPAP is....its not on the floor, but its down low....

But, what has me thinking is that I was thinking of turning my bed around, which would move the CPAP closer to the floor register....and it has me wondering if I should be worried about the stuff that might be coming up through there. Often there are strange smells and such coming from my neighbors....sometimes they are pretty bad. The air purifier in my bedroom has an odor sensor...so it'll rev up to maximum, which it does at various (unexpected) times during the night.

There are other times, where I wouldn't expect it to do so...but I've gotten to expect it to do it....makes me wonder where the bathroom exhaust fans really goes to.

The bed position is basically where the movers put it when I moved in....which kind of sucks because the light in the apartment parking lot shines right on the bedroom window. So sometimes I find that spot where the light cuts a beam into my eye. It was strange, when I first moved in...I had put aluminum foil in my luggage in case I needed to cover the windows with it. Though when I first moved in the parking lot didn't exist yet. So the foil went up later....except that there's some silly rule that window coverings have to appear white from the outside. Yet I see plenty of cases of non-white window coverings...including a Canadian Flag. But, they probably didn't like me reflecting the parking lot light back....

I got better curtains...but, I didn't get the measurements right....

I keep mine on a shelf below the level that I sleep -- I need it lower, but it's to control rainout.
I wouldn't consider putting it on any floor - carpet or tile. Besides having dogs and cats, the dust bunnies that collect on the floor would be a disgusting addition to my air intake....Yeah there's a filter, but I don't think I want to change it every night!!!
Any static build up can affect the electronics so it's a good point....

I have read here that some put their machine in a plastic box that sits on the floor which I guess would be better, but.....
And then again, if I was "that worried" about all the stuff in the air, on the floor, everywhere -- I'd live in a bubble.....

Among other things, I'm responsible for looking after roughly 50 PCs at work, and the difference in dust and dirt between those placed on the floor and those placed on the desk is very noticable. There is of course a balance, as many need the xPAP below the bed level to prevent rainout hitting them full in the face. My feeling is that it's a permanent part of your life, you might as well keep it in mind when decorating your bedroom, and allow for it when choosing your bed side furniture. Many spend good money of a desk for our computers, but just dump our xPAP down on the table, when it is actually more important to our lives and health than the computer is.

For those who don't know:
The only way to make a post disappear entirely is to use the "delete spam" button. Those who use it for the wrong reason loose that privilege. And the wrognly deleted post is but back on the thread by the forum admins.
