My patient is fixed!

Post by polysomno-man » Thu Feb 12, 2009 5:05 am

We can add another person to our success stories! I have a patient, who is supine right now, in her 2nd REM cycle with no respiratory events. It was actually an easy night, she is only at 8 cm.

Ah! Success makes you feel good, eh? Good on you, polysomno-man. Now if your patient is fortunate w/her local DME supplier ...... what's your feeling on patients being provided w/a fully data capable CPAP like the Resmed S8 II Elite or Respironics M Series Pro w/C-Flex?

I use CFLEX here, and I use VPAP up at my other lab. I swear by Respironics and ResMed. I won't use any other CPAPs or BiPAPs. As far as masks, I will give others a try, but those are the two best in my book. My bro and dad both use the ResMed S8, so that should answer your question

"My Patient is fixed"

If I needed proof this is a polysomno-TROLL it is right here in the choice of words (fixed ???), and in the need to create his own thread to discuss his success.

I do not believe one word this person writes.

You are so right, tho, Ozij, about the "fixed" statement. All polysomno-man has at this point is wat appears to be a successful titration.

Unfortunately, there is still the big bad world of the local DME supplier experience for this patient to struggle thru.

Nah, I don't think polysomno-man is a troll. I think he really is a well-meaning sleep tech who wants to help people, and has found his way to the "helping-est" apnea message board out there.

Doesn't mean his opinions are gospel, any more than ours are. And yeah, I saw your first post, polysomno-man, in the wee hours of the morning Feb 12 in your thread, "PLEASE STOP THE MADNESS CPAP USERS!" I just smiled to myself and went on. You made the right decision to take that back and start over here.

I'd say the majority of sleep techs think in terms of "Good. Got this one fixed!" when they're looking at a successful titration in the lab.

As you said, Slinky... "Unfortunately, there is still the big bad world of the local DME supplier experience for this patient to struggle thru."

heheh. Yep. And that's how I \'fikst\ my Headrest mask. I supplied it with something needed. To wit, a couple of legs from a pair of pantyhose tights.

I look forward to the day pollywog sets up a dedicated "rested gal" mask drawer full of pantyhose at the lab. (Try putting THAT in the notes to the doc!)

I'll never forget the day my wife took me to the veterinary lab to get me "fixed." She's had a really tough time getting me to get back in the car since that day.

I was a little mislead by the title. I thought the OP was a veterinarian and I thought to myself, "Well good for Fido. Maybe he'll leave the rolled up water hose hanging next to the faucet alone now..."

Yes, now that the patient has been correctly titrated we can only hope that when they walk into the DME he doesn't hand them the crummy mask he has been trying to unload and bottom of the line CPAP and tell them to go home and figure it out.

Even if the patient gets a great DME and a top of the line APAP with a mask that fits, compliance is far from guaranteed. Having said that, it should not detract from that sense of satisfaction that someone feels when their job goes well and they have acheived their goal for the working day.

I don't think my patients are fixed, I know they are fixed. I make sure I get 2 cycles of REM with no respiratory events out of them before I let them go (while supine). I also do follow up with them 3 days 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, and then on their 3rd and 6th month after they received their CPAP. Just because alot of you people had techs that didn't care, doesn't mean they all don't care.
