Activa LT Mask ??

Post by bap40 » Thu Jan 29, 2009 8:28 am

I see that there is a new Activa LT nasal mask that comes in a smaller size. Has anyone out there given this mask a try? I tried one of the orginals and of course it was way too big.. so just wondering because I liked the way it worked even though it didn't for me because of the size.

Thanks,
Brooke

Hmmm, I was wonder if it came in a larger size.....

Growing up, kids used to tease me about my big nose....now its still a curse.

I've been using the Activa with the standard cushion. Switched from the large cushion which was too long, contributing to eyeleaks around my bridge. The standard is a better fit, but I've been haggling with the DME over going to the shallow because it is even shorter still. I find the lower on my bridge the mask fits, the fewer the eye leaks.

It's a long story (if I have some time and the inclination to be frustrated about DMEs while I write about it I may post the story some time - suffice to say ResMed came through in a big way for me, I think as a result of mishandling by my DME, and is sending me no charge, the LT with two cushions to try. This is not to say that other manufacturers are not exemplary, but ResMed has scored big points with me). Anyway, I'll be trying the Activa LT soon, with a medium cushion (which is the same as the Activa standard) and also the large-wide (which is the same as the Activa shallow). All of this with no help from my DME.

I'll update the post after I've had a chance to give them a try. I'm eager to try the LT as the regular Activa has been fairly good for me overall, save for the eyeleaks. I'm particularly intrigued by the forhead pad knob adjustment thing which I think is on their micro and the overall smaller size.

Please keep us posted. My DME told me I cannot get another mask until March. I am using the regular Mirage Activa and would really like to try the new LT. Give it a try and let us know!

I purchased the new Resmed Activa LT from http://www.thecpapshop.com So far it has worked great and the redesigned forehead assembly is much better. It feels a bit heavier, but over all comfort is better. It is also quieter than the regular Activa.

CPAP.COM has the same mask for $99.95, not $145 like the capapshop.

I am interested in this mask because of my usual size petite and small sized masks I use. I am hoping that this new mask might fit us smaller faced gals and guys! So keep the posts going on how this mask works and is sized!

Thanks,

After months of waiting, cpap.com has only JUST gotten these in. Yeah!! They still don't offer just the cushion replacement. I was hoping to try out the cushion on my old headgear to see if the cushion was a better fit than the old standard, before I committed to a whole new set up.

Sleepyjoe:
I had nearly identical problem. For 6 years I struggled with leaks from a large Activa mask because the CME said that is was correct for me. Well, SUPRISE!--- it wasn't. Life is much better now with a standard size. Which only strenghens my belief that : A-don't accept a CME's reccomendation as the last word. B-If you're having problems don't give up-keep trying new masks. & C--All CME's should be CPAP users--otherwise most just don't give a damn! :

A couple weeks ago I spoke to Andrew at cpap-supply.com and I got the impression they had the mask and cushions available. I think their price was 89 ish for the entire mask set up and 40ish for a specific cushion. Check it out to be sure.

He wrote this article and is president of the company: http://www.cpap-supply.com/Articles.asp?ID=172

I thought he said the cushions were interchangable between the regular and LT, but when I spoke to ResMed directly, they said they were not, which suggests that the frames are slightly different. So now I'm not sure which is correct. I was going to order the LT with large-wide cushion on my own dime, then put my regular Active standard cushion on it if that didn't work. Now that ResMed is sending me the LT with two cushions I'll be able to figure it out first hand and will pass on what I discover. I expect it on Monday hopefully and am eager to check it out.

ResMed did send me the actual plastic templates for the regular and LT. Basically, the regular standard is the LT medium and the regular shallow is the LT large-wide. Why they changed the names of the sizes is beyond me. They seem to match up exactly when superimposed on each other. It seems they need a "standard" that is shorter-like the shallow. I thought I might see if ResMed is open to suggestions some day. Right now just trying to figure this out with what they have to offer. Finally, I understand that the "bellows" part of the cushion is a bit shorter around the entire cushion which makes it overall smaller than the regular Activa cushions. ResMed says that does not denegrate the active cell technology

I think there's another thread on the LT somewhere around here too, but haven't looked for it lately. This one seems more recent now.

That article clearly says that the cushions are interchangeable. Resmed says that they are not? Hmmmm.

I had the following email exchange with ResMed:

Question: Can the cushion and clip for the new Mirage Activa LT mask be used
with the older Activa frame? If not, will the old triangular clip fit into the
new cushion, enabling it to be used with the old frame? Thank you.

Thank you for contacting ResMed.
Yes, the cushions and clips for the Activa (Size: Standard, Medium and Large)
are interchangeable with the Activa LT (Size: Medium, Large and Large Wide), and
visa versa.
Thank you, Nichole ResMed Customer Service

There is another thread in which one of the experienced users on this forum used them interchangeably, and provided photos of the old Activa and new Activa LT cushions and clips. Declared them identical, and so they do appear.

I have Mirage Activa LT with the medium cushion. I absolutely loved the cushion and the way it feels, but.... the frame of the mask was way way too long for me. They don't make a smaller frame for it. The bottom of the mask went below my upper lip and put pressure on my teeth.

So, I now have the Mirage Micro, which has a much smaller frame and the medium fits me well. The cushions are not as nice as the Activa, but until they make a smaller frame, the cushion sizes don't much matter.
