Explanation of indexes

Post by SnoreNoMore2005 » Thu Aug 11, 2005 8:42 pm

Could someone tell me what the following indexes actually mean? I understand how they're calculated, but what good does it do to know that your flow limitation index is .5. Is a .5 FLI good? Is it bad?

I've read that an AHI under 5 is good so I can relate my numbers to whether I'm doing good or bad.

But what are good or acceptable ranges for:

- The flow limitation index.
- The OA Index
- The Hypopnea Index
- The snore index.
- Non-responsive AHI index
- Daily mask leak rate

Thanks for your help.

- The flow limitation index.
- The OA Index
- The Hypopnea Index

A total of 5 per hour max for any combination of the above.

- The snore index.

Minimize as you can. A high snore index may cause an auto to respond erratically. Otherwise if all is well and you feel good in the morning I would not worry about the snore index.

- Daily mask leak rate

All the software I've seen will show you a max leak graph. As long as you are below this line the machine will compensate for the leaks.

Sincerely,

Can anyone tell me the difference between a flow limitation and a hypopnea?

Thanks
