A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
The nice folks that make this product were nice enough to send me a weeks worth of these mask liners. They are at http://www.remzzzs.com
Anyway, they seem like a tightly knit cotton cloth, cut roughly in the shape of a mask with a hole in the middle for your nose/mouth. They didn't look large enough to fit in my ffm, but actually they are quite stretchy. Once I lay it in my mask, I put my face down into the mask (so I don't disturb the liner), put the mask on, and then tug at the edges to fit it properly over mouth and nose.
So what's it like? Well, I have a love hate relationship with the silicon skirt on the Quattro. I wash my face every night to remove oils, and I either wash the skirt or just wipe it. If I am clean, the mask sort of sticks to me, doesn't slide around. If I don't do this, or later on in the night as I perspire, the mask slips around more. I sometimes wake up with it leaking and I have to shove it around.
The RemZzz feels much nicer than the silicone. Its like the feel of a very smooth cotton layer against your face. The edges sometimes tickle various facial features, but it's not really bothersome. I tend to fuss with it when I put it on, but ignore it after a bit. Even in the morning, the setup feels cool and dry. So it gets points for relieving the feeling of a silicon mask against my sweaty face.
In terms of leaks, which is why I tried them in the first place, the verdict is mixed. It feels like the mask isn't sealed on my face at all, like its free to leak from everywhere. This is just a feeling, it is not reality. Looking at my leak lines, they look pretty much the same as when I am not using the liner. No large leaks, avg rate the same. However, there also isn't any improvement that I was hoping for.
Does my review sound ambivalent? Well it is. If you are bothered by the silicon, if your mask slips around, abrading your beard, etc, then these liners might make a great improvement in your comfort. I however was motivated by my quest for a flatter leak line and I don't see any improvement. That doesn't mean that YOU won't, as I am a sample size of one.
I encouraged the makers of this product to offer trial packs. Wow they were auick, as their website now lists sample packs!!!! They are not inexpensive. At the recommended fresh every day usage, that's $1 a day (but I bet you can stretch that). You should be able to determine fairly quickly if they are for you. You can drop them a line at their website to chat more about their product.

Re: A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
I bought sample packs for both me and my hubby. We've used them for a few nights and have mixed reviews, too.
My first comment is that I've used the same one for three nights and I think it's still fine to use for a few more. I'm pretty sure I could wash it in the sink and get more use out of it. I don't know why the company says they are single night use. I'm also pretty sure that I could go down to the local fabric store and find a similar fabric and that would be cheaper still. I know we can't afford a buck a night x 2 people....
My hubby likes them okay, but he tends to lift up his mask to scratch his face in the middle of the night which displaces the Remzzz and then he can't get it back in place. I'm guessing that in the long run he won't use them. I haven't checked the data yet, but I'm pretty sure that it isn't helping his leaks because I am still waking up to hear them.
I like the feel of the fabric on my face as opposed to the silicon. And it helps my perceived leaks, even if it doesn't show up in the data when I upload it later. I have to use the Large size 432 seal which is a bit too wide for me, but the medium is not long enough so I'm stuck. The fabric helped with leaks around my eyes and leaks under my chin. I also don't wake up with the mask so completely wet that I have to take it off for while when I have a night sweat.
So go ahead and try a sample pack if you're so inclined. It's at least worth the $6.95 (I think) that I paid.

Do they cut down on the Quattro's seal singing, kazoo-like sounds, and the like ?
That's what gets me about the Quattro.....nothing like a kazoo sounding off
a few inches from one's ear at 2 am .
I have a UMFF coming in the mail today.
Bill

Re: A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
I've never been one to check my data; technically challenged, I guess. But the main thing I like about Remzzzs is that if they are leaking a little bit, at least it isn't waking me up with those noises! I like the way Bill described them as Kazoo sounds! It also fells more comfortable & less sweaty than with plain silicone, and they help with those red marks on my nose & face. All in all, I like them alot. But you should judge for yourselves.

My mask is not one listed .. bummer
But I am thinking this might be a solution for the folks who came to our AWAKE support group meeting having allergy issues with their mask!

How much is the postage on a sample pack? How many masks are in the pack?
TIA!

Yes, true, less 'artificial fart' noises. That's part of my perception about it not feeling like its sealed - no thin concentrated line of 'stuck to my face' -
I could see how taking the mask off to scratch your nose would require a re-installation

Re: A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
One thing I have done is grab an old t-shirt that was headed for the rag bin made out of 100 % cotton. Cut a mask liner out of it. I start with larger than the mask seal and then cut a small notch for the nose etc. I start with two cuts one vertical and one horizontal for the nose.
Once you have one made that fits, keep it for pattern for more. I have made them for both soyala FFM and soyala/somnoplus nasal.
With a little work and ONE old tshirt (or something else that is high % cotton), you got many many liners ready and won't think twice about trashing them after one or a few nights.

Re: A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
I'm now in my second month (after the sample packet) of RemZzz's and have to admit that I really like them a lot.
I was almost at the point of abandoning CPAP altogether, as the frequent leaks and the breakdown of skin on the
bridge of my nose was getting to be intolerable. With RemZzz's, all of that is a thing of the past. I've not yet tried
reusing them, but will experiment in the near future. I do have a beard, and that doesn't seem to faze the RemZzz's
a bit. Scratching under the mask during the night, though, is a problem that I still have to work on. All in all, I
highly recommend RemZzz's. They're not inexpensive, but well worth the cost.

Re: A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
I was just thinking that, with an old 100% cotton T shirt or the like, a person could make a replica RemZzz for any full face or even maybe a nasal mask. Anyone tried?
I was thinking of you AuntieNae,since your mask is not listed on the RemZzz site.

See the thread on the Zzz-mask... I cut out a shape for it, and tested it last night, and it worked very well.

If I were going to be doing this regularly, I might consider hemming my little creation so it could be washed without potential fraying. OTOH, considering that I could probably get a month's worth or more out of a yard of fabric, there's no real need to worry about it.

That's great KiraLynx.
My mind is working overtime now! It could also be done with the mouth part of the Liberty and the Hybrid I'll bet. Someone was talking about the mouth piece on the Liberty causing problems with their upper lip. I can't remember the thread or I 'd put it there! This could work!

CPAPTalk Lab Rats could make a fortune if the CPAP manufacturers would just hire us. ( Remember the Rested Gal Creations...?)

Re: A couple of days with RemZzz's (a review of sorts)
I've just ordered a sample pack as i am fighting middle of the night leaks with my quattro and i have a huge sore on my nose through over tightening the straps
I was disappointed this mask is not working for me right now as i purchased it after an unsuccessful month on the Swift Lt and chin straps.
The fight goes on ......

this is the idea I used unless someone else has a post from earlier but I used things targeted for rags and no sewing for this
