First Night back on CPAP in 6 months

*sigh* Just 'cause you know how to change therapy settings doesn't mean you should when you don't know what you are doing. Make ONE change, LEAVE it there for ONE WEEK before making any other ONE CHANGE. And that means mask change as well as any setting change. Use the ONE WEEK's data to determine what the next step should be IF there should even be one.

Did you ever bother to get a copy of, not only the doctor's dicated results (1-2 pages each), but also of the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs (5+ pages each) from both your sleep evaluation AND your titration? The answer could quite possibly be in those full scored data summary reports.

What is kinda funny and really is a disappointment is that I was also sick when I had my 1st and 2nd visit on the sleep study. So I normally dont' mouth breathe but they said I should use a full face. So I was using my mouth and they gave me a pressure of 7. I used 7 on cpap for 1 month no changes, and it was way to low, I had so many ahi, osa, hi, and everything. So I took that cpap machine back and received an Apap, and 90% of the pressure is at 10cm.

That sounds good, I have played around with auto for almost a year and never worked. So I will play with my new Resmed AutosetII and see how the week goes. After one week on to try full pressure 10cm.

Which friggin' machine and what pressure(s) are you using?

I was under the impression you were using your REMstar Auto.......with Encore Pro.

If you keep switching machines, you're going to have a helluva time figuring out what works and what doesn't, the ResMeds don't score events the same as the Resprionics machines......so you're going to get higher AHI numbers (in all probability).

Yep! ResMed machines count Flow Limitations in their AHI numbers......which usually result in higher numbers. That's why so many of the users of those machines can't figure out why they can't get their AHI below the 5.0 (normal) level.
So, if you're switching.....keep that in mind......but use what you want......it's your therapy.

Edit: And, the ResMed Auto algorithm won't allow the pressure to go beyond 10 cm. in the case of a "frank" (sudden) apnea.....only if they're preceded by snores of Flow Limitations.

Also I turn it on for a couple mins, and then turn it off, It still is blowing air, very very lightly but still blowing air. Does your do this?

If you're talking about pursuing apneas above 10 cm........No......it's deliberate programming in their algorithm to prevent their machines from causing pressure-induced Central Apneas in people who may be susceptible to them. The Respironics Autos have a different method......they make three attempts at pressure increases to stop an apnea and if it doesn't, then it drops the pressure back down and marks it as "Non-Responsive".

A couple of minutes here and there won't get rid of the smell......will probably take several nights of use. And, all of the ResMeds keep blowing after they're shut off (for awhile)......or so I've read.

Resmed with the humidifier attached do indeed continue to blow air after you have turned the machine off for up to an hour. This is to keep moisture from the humidifier chamber out of the main body.

As far as the new machine smell I would suggest trying some of the oils from pursleep. They were kind enough to send me a trial pack of scented oils that may really help you out.

If you leave the Resmed machine as is, it will blow lightly all day. Flip the cover on the Humidifier up and it will turn off. Empty and replace the tank and everything will be nice and dry for the next night. Also, with my Elite I focus on keeping the AI and the leak rate down, and don't worry much about the HI as long as it is under 5.0. By careful tweaking (See Slinky's post above) I am almost always under 0.3 AI, and 0.0 about 40 percent of the time. Total AHI jumps around a lot, rarely above 5.0 . Best of luck.

9.8 Pressure - It doesn't tell me if it was 90% or 95% or anything so all I can tell you is the screen said 9.8
0 on the leak - How can my leak be 0%

Not bad for the first night.

How did you have it set?......9 - 11? EPR? Ramp? Settling?

ResMeds use 95% whereas Resprionics uses 90%

The mask setting in the machine (hopefully you selected the correct one) is supposed to be programmed for the intended Vent Flow Rate at the various pressures reached......therefore, if everything comes out right, it CAN be ZERO leakage.

I did a wider range just for the new machine to see how well it works, It seems to be more stable in picking the correct pressure than the m series.

I used
7cm - 13cm on Auto
Settling @ 30 mins ( I don't know what this means, but you cannot choose a ramp setting like with the m series) Ramp is settling in auto mode but dont' understand why.
EPR - 3 ( I think this is pressure relief and at the max setting )


Once I figure out what Settling means or if it allows me to breathe normal while awake, then once i'm asleep it kicks up the pressure.

Also one thing to note, It allows me to use EPR for either all the time, or just for settling.

My opinion with not lugging around a power supply block, pre warming heater, and being able to adjust the EPR for ramp or full time, makes the resmed way better.
But as you've said before, RESMED Needs to get their software up to par. Slackers.

Is it worth it to get a card reader and software for the Autoset II , Since the data is on the screen???
