Feeling breathless?

Post by Dragon Lady » Sat Dec 27, 2008 9:59 am

I've been on the cpap for a couple of months now. Recently, I started feeling sort of breathless sometimes when I wake up. I'm wondering if maybe the pressure is too high (set at for me and wonder if it should have bothered me in the beginning?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Give us a correct clue, you are showing a "Classic Tank Plus" is that really the machine you have, they have been out of stock for a while. What is your pressure?
Do you use the Ramp feature, if so at what pressure, and how long. Give us a few bones and we might be able to help. Really a data capable machine is needed along with the software and reader to monitor what happend at night. Jim

Your profile is filled in in Iconny instead of text, making it hard for people to see the equiptment you are using.

Jim,
I too prefer much more to see the profile detail in text in people's posts. I did discover once, by conicidence, that if you click on the poster's name and get to his profile you'll see text next to all the icons - even when the post shows only icons.
That's one click more than if the equimpente is there textually in the post - but at least it's not a separate click for every piece of the equipment in the setup.

Thought you might want to know.

But, you did offer an alternative in this post.

If you are feeling short of breath when you wake up, it could be due to many reasons, and not necessarily the machine, so it's best if you see your MD to rule out some of those which could be serious.

Since you're using a nasal mask, it might be that you're leaking your therapy air out of your mouth during the night and you're "breathless" because you're waking up while you're having apneas. Your pressure is not very "high".

Sorry about the equiqment icons. I thought everyone saw it was the norm here but have not changed it to text.

As for the pressure, I have not idea how the icon got there, but it's set at 8 and ramp at 15 minutes. I may well be leaking from the mask, as I find I'm still adjusting the straps to figure out the best tightness/looseness and have occasionally woken up in the morning with the dry mouth.

Maybe I need to find a new mask instead.

Possibly, but in the interim, you could try taping (blue painter's tape) or Polident adhesive denture strips to keep your lips sealed.
