I've been seeing all the acronymns on this board. I've been running a one man campaign for the last two years to try to eradicate acronymns from Rotary International, which is a forlorn hope since Rotary has at last count 1.3 million members globally, and at least 1.8 million acronymns in common use. It even has an acronymn (TLA) for acronymns.
Anyway, it seems like the health industry, and our part in it is similarly afflicted. Is there somewhere I can go to find out what they all mean? Is there an acronymn dictionary for sleep apnea sufferers?
Can someone tell me what BPAP and VPAP are, and how they differ from APAP?
Cheers

Re: Curious
I think the link that Brenda posted is the most comprehensive list.
Here are a couple more links:

"Whats the differences in BIPAP, XPAP, APAP, CFLEX"
Common abbreviations and definitions:

Re: Curious
Hey, that's funny. An acronym for an acronym.
Still, one has to wonder about that list. What is the difference between OSA, ASAS, SA, and SAS?
All of them relate to sleep, and seem redundant.
And some seem to be left out. The last time I went on the treadmill, they said I had a lot of PCB's. I asked what the heck that was.
They said it was premature contracted beats.
And some of them seem odd to me.
I thought I would try this out on my wife to see if she up to snuff on her acronyms.
I said, "honey, since you know I have DOES, we should increase our TIB" (you can look these up)
She thought a minute and said, "Well, then, you're just SOL."

Re: Curious
I introduced a penalty in my Rotary club for every member who used an acronym during Rotary business. At 10 cents a go we raised enough money to feed all the poor in Africa, eradicate all infectious diseases in Asia, and still have enough left to buy the club a new banner.
Perhaps we could do the same thing here (I'll collect the fines:twisted: All fines to be paid in $Aust)
Being serious, I did make the post for a reason. Could we put a sticky up, or have a topic under the light globe, with these acronymns explained? It might make sense, especially to the new members.
By the way, for those who missed it, TLA is 'three letter acronymn'. Who knows what AFLA is?

Okay Rested Gal, you've got me started . . . .
But I'll show some restraint and stay (sort of) on topic.
Anyway, AFLA is Acronym for Four Letter Acronym
Now I get to pay another fine
