Χριστος is the Greek word for "Christ" (the New Testament was originally written in Greek). The first letter is a 'chi' and looks like the English letter 'X'. For well over 1000 years, 'X' has been used to represent the word 'Christ'. Therefore, X-Mas is simply another way of writing Christmas.

Merry X-Mas to all,
Mike

Well said, Mike. I never take offense at people's use of "Xmas" for the exact reason you've given. Interesting forum name you've taken, btw. Eutychus may have been the first person to have been written about as having fallen asleep during a sermon. A most fortunate young man to have survived a three-story fall. But maybe it wasn't Paul's sermon that put him to sleep, after all (what are the odds?).... MAYBE his daytime sleepyness was due to SA.

εμμανουηλ (Emmanuel ... the most mind-blowing word ever, meaning "God is with us")

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a GOOD NIGHT!!
