Mask fitting at DME

Post by hose head » Tue Dec 23, 2008 9:35 am

I went to DME yesterday to get download of data to take to Doctor(three pages, no detail pages) and to get mask that fits. I have had a F-P 407 and pretty good leak rates, but I have marks on my face for hours in the morning. If I loosen mask, leak rate rockets. The top stabilizers on the mask are sitting right in my hair line. The bottom of the mask sits on the top of my lip and the top of the mask is right at top of my nose. The woman didn't even show me the F-P406. She got out Mirage Micro mask. In the one size the top pads hit me right at my hair line. She couldn't find a small nasal piece, so the nose fit me like the F-P 407. She also had the Mirage Micro in a small size, the top pads hit me right above the eye brows, but the nose piece plastic was pressed up against my nose at the bottom sides. I also tried on the Mirage Activa, same thing with the top pads hitting my hair line. Where on the face should the top pads hit? She looked for a template to measure my nose, but couldn't find one. All of the mask fitting was done with me sitting in a chair.
She got out the Swift LT. I went home with Swift. She would only give me the small pillows, but did send me home with two sets. I tried sleeping with Swift had problems with leaks, switched back to F-P 407, back to Swift, back to F-P 407. The Swift when it is not leaking is really quiet. I got some rain-out early--still don't have hose covers. I am so confused.

Sounds like the typical DME in my opinion.

The last mask I picked up at the DME -- they didn't even put it on my face -- just held it up and said yup it will fit. I tried using it one night and had terrible leaks and went back to the other full face mask I have for when I have a cold (was congested that night).

I think that is why many people fail to use their equipment is poor fitting of masks, etc. by the DME.

Sounds like my DME. Keep in mind the DME provides you service but you are not the customer. The insurance company is. I have had good luck getting Apria to be responsive with complaints to my insurance and threats of complaints to the insurance commisionier.
I'm tired...and obviously new to this
