Using Flexifit nasal mask with ResMed AutoSet II

Post by ziggytosh » Tue Dec 16, 2008 2:04 pm

My dad, who was also recently diagnosed with OSA, gave me a mask he didn't like, the Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit 407 nasal mask. I had been using a Quattro full face from ResMed. I tried the FlexiFit nasal last night and quite liked it. I think I'm going to try to use it going forward.

My question is, which mask selection should I use in my ResMed AutoSet II. I have seen before that you should use the "standard" setting whenever you have a non-ResMed mask, but looking at the flow rates, it actually looks to me like the ResMed full-face masks are pretty comparable. I took screen caps of charts from ResMed and Fisher & Paykel:

The ResMed full-face masks are the purple columns to the right.

Can I please get some input from the seasoned vets here? Is that correct? Should I go with the full-face setting on my AutoSet or should I stick with "standard." Will it make any difference in terms of AHI reported? Last night I had it set as if it were a ResMed full, rather than using the standard setting, and I got my best AHI to date, with a mask that felt less bulky and obtrusive.

Use the Standard mask selection w/the 407. Your Resmed will then automatically subtract 24 L/M (.4 L/s) from the reported Leak rate. Add that 24 L/M (.4 L/s) to the Reported leak rate to determine your TRUE leak rate and compare that to the
allowed vent rate for the FlexFit 407 at your set pressure.
