my encore downloads plz help

Post by nobody » Sun Dec 14, 2008 7:43 pm

Do they look really bad? Why do I feel so tired? That's a quatro full face mask I use. It has teflon tape around the pipe.

BTW do you know if sleep walking or whatever could make me more tired the next day? When I find those gaps in the therapy line I don't know what I have been doing. I just have vague memory of being up out of bed in the house.

I can't comment on the sleepwalking, but the reports look "good"......and the last one looks "great".
Have you been on APAP long?

I've been using it since the beginning of the year. I had a lot of problems for a while with masks and everything but the last few months it seems to be going very well except that I'm still so tired during the day. Maybe it really is another issue. I'm getting another sleep study soon and also a complete physical exam. Maybe we can finally find out what is still wrong. I sure hope so I'm getting desperate here.

Here's a thought from my experience with the Quattro.......
After I did the "Teflon tape fix" (which is usually necessary), it didn't seem like there was enough vent flow rate (CO2 exhaust or leak rate).
Taping the elbows cut my "leak rate" from around 40, down to the low 30's at a pressure of 12 cm. and it just didn't seem like there was nearly as much air flow in that mask compared to the UMFF, which is the one I've used almost exclusively since the beginning. I too didn't feel nearly as "rested" with the Quattro as the UMFF and have wondered if maybe there wasn't enough CO2 washout with the Quattro and I was re-breathing too much of my own carbon dioxide.

Doesn't look too bad, but you need to set up a account, fill in your profile in text, not Iconny, So people can know everything you use and how. I would get James Skinner's add in program, it's handy to see how mush time was spent in Apnea and a avg of how many. Welcome! Jim

I wonder if you have something there, Den. Last night I woke up and felt as though I were choking. This happened twice. The air seems stuffy inside the mask. I have been wondering for a while now if I'm turning on my pillow and covering the exhaust vent. I wonder if I should just try removing the teflon tape.

Can you tell me where to get this program? Thanks!

You will need Encore Pro to use Encore Pro Analyzer (EPA) it will NOT work with Encore Viewer bc viewer does NOT create a database for EPA to use. Both Encore Pro and Viewer are programs from Respironics.

A snip from his webpage -
Encore Pro Analyzer is a tool for graphing and exploring data stored by Encore Pro software for Respironics xPAP machines.

The program is a follow on of the excellent MyEncore package created by Derek Rowell. Since MyEncore's last version (1.5b7), Repironics has released the new M Series machines that doesn't work fully with the current MyEncore. Even worse the newer versions of Encore Pro don't work with MyEncore at all. The author of MyEncore appears to be no longer reachable so Encore Pro Analyzer is a similar application designed to work with all the Repironics machines and more versions of Encore Pro.

Your call. The problem with the Quattro is that it may feel like it's leaking like crazy and keep you awake.
If you could get a UMFF (Ultra Mirage Full Face) that would be one way to tell. If you're not due for a new mask yet from your DME, you might try CPAPAUCTION.COM or post a message on the forum to see if anybody has one they couldn't use that's in your size. You'd need to register or log in so the members could contact you.
Increasing the machine's pressure by one or two centimeters might help in the interim.

Tell me if I'm thinking about this right...

Here is part of the data from last night:

    http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp20 ... /cpap4.png

At the point where it ends there, I woke up and felt as though I were choking inside a very stuffy mask. I tore off the mask at that point to get some air. Notice the leak rate down to 19.48 and that might even be skewed high because you see I have a leak spike in there. I have seen the leak rate on this when there are no spikes like that and it's at 14 or 15. Now according to the manufacturer's chart the normal leak rate on that mask for the pressure that I'm at should be more like 30...which I assume means that's what it should be to adequately remove my exhaled air. I wonder if this could be the problem? Seems when I was using the nasal mask I didn't have as much of a problem feeling sleepy during the day. I switched because my mouth kept opening because my sinuses were stuffed up (allergies). I wonder if I should get an oximeter too. I'm kinda tired of switching masks, this one is very comfortable. I've tried the UMFF a while ago and couldn't get a good seal. I suppose I could try again if I could find one cheap enough.

It would seem logical that if you were having apneas, hypopneas or even flow limitations......they should be showing up on the report......so, I'm not sure what to think about that.
If it were me, I'd try switching masks and see if it makes a difference in how I felt.
If you have a decent relationship with your doctor, you could ask him/her to order you an overnight pulse-oximetry study (which should be free) before investing in one of your own. They just send the order to a local DME and you pick up the device and then take it back to them when you're done......and then they download the data.

I was thinking I may be suffocating because not enough air is being cleared out of the mask, which wouldn't show up on the machine (except as a low leak rate compared to what the manufacturer says), but would definitely wake me up in a panic and would contribute to poor sleep and feeling sleepy in the day. I guess that's only if I'm understanding the manufacturer's chart correctly. I was thinking about an oximeter because I'm starting to question the safety of these masks. Obviously I need to treat severe OSA, but need to do it safely. Thanks very much for your help!

The discerpance between what you feel and what the machine reports is too big. I wonder if the mahcine isn't malfuctioning.

I would try to change the pressure range - make it much wider - just to see of the machine is responding properly to anything at any pressure.

And alternative - would be to get a loaner machine from a DME and to compare how the machines function and how you feel.

    O.
