AHI is 16.3+ Help

Post by Shutchis1951 » Sun Dec 14, 2008 11:51 am

I have had to sit up sleeping the last two nights due to a Epley maneuver to try to correct my positional vertigo. The one thing that surprised me has been my nightly AHI has been sky high at over 16.3 the last two nights. My leak rate was 1.32 last night due to the back strap slid up my head. I also have to wear a cervical collar to remind me not to look down or up. I still have one more night to sleep sitting up, but is this normal for my AHI to be so high? I normally am in the 8 or 9 for my AHI I know that it should be below 5. Any thoughts on why my AHI is so high?

Not taping while using nasal mask. Maybe your machine set for wrong mask. leaks have to be controlled ot treatment won't work. Jim

I don't know anything about your recent procedure, but I'd think that being in any kind of recuperating mode could change your sleep experience. Also, you are being forced into a specific physical position by the collar, which may be different from your default alignment of your neck and therefore airway.....

I have a spike in AHI monthly because of hormones, in addition to a night or 2 of insomnia near the same time. I'd go crazy if I focused on adjusting my treatment just to address the few odd days....when at the moment treatment parameters are just fine the rest of the time as far as settings.

So, attention to leaks, and perhaps some patience while your body finds its center again.....

All the best,
J

It's got to be mouth-breathing. I thought I was not one, and prided myself on not having to tape. But once about 3 weeks ago I woke up and determined that I HAD been mouth-breathing. My AHI was shooting up toward 8 (which was close to what it was during sleep study). I changed to the Ultra Mirage nasal mask, and for some strange reason, I have not mouth-breathed since. I haven't used the LT since then and probably won't go back to it. Some people apparently don't adjust to nasal pillows, and I must be one of them. Last night my leak was 0.00 and my AHI was 1.4! (For the month it was 3.5). My settings are 6.6 - 18 and a pressure of 8, and EPR set at 1. I was wondering what yours are.
