Second sleep study

Post by library teacher » Sat Dec 13, 2008 5:58 pm

I went for my second sleep study last night. I was earlier scheduled for Sunday night, but there was a cancelation so I was able to go Friday night. I had a restless night. I only had 7 apneas, but I tried a nasal pillow mask (provided by the clinic for me to try) and it started burning my nostrils and was very uncomfortable in the night. The tech then replaced it with my own nasal mask and I finally settled down for some rest. I was very disappointed that I could not use the nasal pillow.

The Health management therapist did give me a Flexifit 407 to try. (No charge) Does anyone have any experience with this one? I hope it works! I will try it tonight.

I was bumped up to 10 from a previous 7.

Please let me know your experiences with the Flexifit 407

I didn't do too bad w/the 407 except that it was a little too large. I wasn't aware at the time that the 406 is the same mask in a smaller size or would have tried it. I, too, gave up on the nasal pillows due to the irrritation of the more direct pressure of air flowing into my nasal passages. I gave up on nasal pillows before I was aware of the benefits of Ayr Saline Nasal Gel. I've also found, now at a much later date, that after months of using my nasal cushion mask my nasal passages have managed to toughen up on their own and I did quite well w/a recent try w/the Swift LT which I very much liked. And NO NASAL IRRITATION w/the Swift LT. But don't under estimate the healing power of Ayr Saline Nasal Gel when trying a nasal pillows mask for the first time!!!

I use the 407. It is too big for my face, but that is par for the course for my DME. It leaks very little. I've been using it for two months. I could try the 406, but an online store that you put in measurements for your face says that it is the wrong size for me. My DME doesn't carry the 405.
I am working on one thing at a time. Once I have machine adjusted right, I will work on getting mask that fits.
I have Liberty mask and I don't really get along with the nasal pillows. Maybe I'll look for this gel stuff.

They try. But those online mask sizing guides were way outta sight for me. They were so far off they might as well have been on another planet. The 406 is smalled than the 407. If you do a FlexiFit search at that online store you will find the 405, 406 and 407. Check them out, their descriptions, pictures, etc.

Last night I went to bed using the 406. I couldn't go to sleep. My nose felt stuffy and I felt some claustrophia. I then reverted back to my original nasal mask and went to sleep. I woke up about 1:00 and the mask was very uncomfortable cutting into my cheekbones. I put back on my 406 and went to sleep. The 406 works best for me if I don't have a stopped up nose. I will probably try the chin strap tonight because I had some mouth breathing.

You may well find that if you struggle thru the first few minutes of nasal mask and stuffiness the heated humidity will acutally clear the stuffiness quite quickly. I've used mine a couple of times when I was so stuffed, every few breaths I would have to breathe thru my mouth, but I could feel the nasal passages and sinuses clearing and just kept at it and it didn't take long before I was breathing comfortable thru my mask as if I'd never been stuffed up. (It beat digging out my full face that just isn't as comfortable or as comfortable a leak-free fit as my nasal mask).

Thanks for your response.I will try that tonight.

I wonder if I would be able to wear the Swift LT . I may call DME to see if they have one I could try. I will try the AYR Saline solution with it.
