Another Newbie Question Re MAsks

Post by minolta25 » Fri Dec 05, 2008 6:20 pm

Hello to all and thanks for all the valuable information/posts.

I have been on CPAP for appx. 18 months and have been using the Mirage Quattro FFM, XS with the Resmed M Series CPAP.
I just replace my mask with the same make/model but am STILL having problems with leaks and swelling around and under the eyes. I must confess, I am a stomach sleeper and have tightened my straps to accommodate this habit.

Are there any "better" masks out there for my situation? My CPAP is set at 10 and don't know if this enters into the picture or not. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Hi minolta,

A bunch of us wrote about the F&P, Quattro, the UMFF, the Hybrid, and the Liberty in this recent thread: viewtopic/t36747/Strange-Problem-for-Newbie.html

If the Quattro isn't working for you, then you might want to try the UMFF or even the Zzzz or the F&P full face masks. Since each person's facial structure is different, a different FFM may work better for your specific set of features.

For stomach sleeping, the Headrest/Aura , Breeze, or NAII type masks are probably the best suited but these are all nasal masks. As far as a FFM goes, it might be that the Hybrid or the Liberty gives you more freedom because the bulky part of the mask is restricted to around the mouth, and not along the entire nose/cheeks section. But I think it will completely depend on you (your facial structure, how well it seals, how much you move at night, where the pressure points are) - so your best bet will be to try different full face masks until you find one that works for you. Annoy your DME, check out the mask test drives, or order online from cpapauction or cpap.com .... or hope that someone else can give you better advice than me.

Thanks Echo. U asked my DME and they only carry the Resporonics and Resmed so I guess I will have to check online. I am a little worried about the sizing thing tho. How does one size the different brands> Thanks again.!

Your DME can order ANY brand if they are willing. I would contact your insurer to ask about other options such as reimbursement and other DME's who may be willing to work for your business.
