Ambient Humidification vs. Integrated Humidifiction

Post by ofarchesandants » Wed Nov 26, 2008 12:13 am

I'm wondering if anyone has every used a regular room humidifier to moisten the ambient air in the room as aposed to using some CPAP specific humidification device. I really don't like the air warm. I like to sleep in a cold room and as long as the air isn't freezing, it is more comfortable for me. I've woken up or been unable to sleep from too warm air which makes my face itchy and with my full face mask causes an increase in pimples. If anyone has tried ambient humidification, how did it work out? Is there any harm to the machine in doing this? Any other potential down sides?
Thanks,
Gregg )

Not sure what you mean, if you are talking about running a standard room hudimifyer to replace the HH on the XPAP. You probably would get more moisture in the mask air by running the HH with the heat turned off, and it would be better for the operation of the XPAP motors. It also could lead to mold problems in the room. Better to keep the hudimity local to the mask. Jim

Why is it better for the motor? I haven't been using a humidifier at all, even with the furnace now going. I started out using an intergrated humidifier, went to the f&p 100, finally turned it off and was using it in passover mode and then this summer took it off completely. Unless things get drier (and they might now that winter is upon us) I don't miss the humidity.

To get the humidy high as a HH can even off would all mold to grow in the room, not good for filters or breathing, and the motor is made to run in clean dry air, the water is added after the fan. I too have been using mine attached without water, this winter I probably return to passover with water, I never turn the heat on. Room temp 60 degrees. Jim

Thanks.

My throat has been scratchy some and unsure if it could be due to the drier air. To be honest I have been too lazy (thus far) to hook the humidifier back up.

I keep mine hooked up on my "Tank" all the time even empty, it cuts down on the breathing noise. I look in the container every now and again, to see if any dirt devils are swirling around. I've been wanting to find some ping pong type balls only smaller to put in the tank, I'd number them and run a lotto in my sleep. Jim

I haven't used ambient humidity instead of... but I have used it along with Integrated humidity.

It's something that I do in the winter time because when it gets cold here it gets really dry in my apartment.
