Since the PB 420 e has no smart card, if your computer is in another room, do you have to lug the machine over to the computer and hook a cable up to download information?
how do you download info from pb 420e

Or, take your laptop to the 420E. I leave the cable plugged into the 420E all the time and just take my notebook to it. Plug in the serial cable and turn the notebook on.
Easy as pie.

Will Succeed, that would be great, if I had a laptop. I knew I shouldn't use the word "lug".
Can you tell me the difference in the 420g and the 420s. I think it is software, and if it is, would I want software with a straight cpap machine. What would it tell me. Thanks so much. I have to choose a machine to buy soon. I only have two more weeks with this loaner. I am trying to find a 420 to look at in real life. I would love to rent one for a month--- but $$$$$--- then I will have to spend more$$$$$ to buy machine.

You can go to http://www.puritanbennett.com to get details on the whole 420 line of machines.
In short, 420G is vanilla CPAP. Great little machine that only delivers one pressure all night long.
420S is same vanilla CPAP but it records data during the night and can report this data through the Silverlining software. This machine, like the 420G delivers only one pressure all night long.
420E is an autoPAP. Same little box, but with lots of smarts built in. Records data, like the 420S and reports this data via Silverlining. However, the 420E can adjust pressure as many times as is needed during the night. It will respond to snoring, with an appropriate pressure increase, and will adjust pressure up and down, within the set range, as much as is needed during the night.
The 420E can be set to operate in single-pressure CPAP mode if you wish. (All of the auto machines from the different manufacturers can do this) OR, if you want, you can leave the machine in autoPAP mode but set the pressure minimum and maximum to the same number. If you set your machine to a min of 12 and a max of 12 (for example) it will just give you 12 all night but it will still collect data regarding your events.

I guess I should have answered your question. Sorry...I have to choose a machine to buy soon
If you can trial all of the different machines, by all means do so. If not, take a look at your titrated pressure. If it is high (I know, I know, all things are relative... what is 'high' to one person may be 'low' to another) then you might like a C-FLEX equipped machine.
If your pressure is 10 or less (just my opinion) you are not likely to get much exhalation relief from C-FLEX and, may not need exhalation relief. If your pressure is higher, definetly make an effort to trial a C-Flex equipped machine (This is the RemStar line of machines.)
Regarding the choice between a straight CPAP machine and an autoPAP machine, given that the price difference is not much, I would encourage you to choose an autoPAP machine. The auto mode is, in my opinion, terrific treatment and, if you don't like it, you can set the machine to operate in single-pressure CPAP mode. You CANNOT, however, get a single pressure CPAP machine to function in auto mode; they just don't have the smarts in them. The exception to this is the ResMed L7 Elite. This machine can be software upgraded to function as an autoPAP. An upgraded L7 Elite is the same beast as a ResMed Spirit.
