did dme give wrong machine??
did dme give wrong machine??
I told a friend who is new to cpap to request the Respironics M series Auto with Aflex. The Dme gave him Respironics Remstar Plus with Cflex which he said was the same auto machine. Isn't there a difference??
Is the Plus data capable?

Re: did dme give wrong machine??
NO!! The Plus is not data capable. You need to get up to at least the Pro for meaningful data ,the plus only reports compliance. If this is truly what your friend was told at the DME,they were lied to.
Re: did dme give wrong machine??

This is what a Remstar Auto with CFlex looks like

xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)
Re: did dme give wrong machine??
Those are for the legacy series - or tank - the plus tank will look the same - I believe jomac has a tank herself
There is an m series APAP with cflex, as well as a m series APAP with aflex - the plus m series will also look like them
It is the label on the top of the machine that will distinguish which model

Re: did dme give wrong machine??
It says Remstar Plus, but my question is--can this machine be an autopap?

Re: did dme give wrong machine??
No - it is a straight cpap if it says PLUS - unless of course it is the bipap plus -
Re: did dme give wrong machine??
The Plus machines - whether fixed or bi-level are not self adjusting. The do not adust the pressure supplied in response to breathing obstructions. A Plus bi-level will supply different pressures for inhale and exhale. However, should your friend need higher pressure when s/he dreams, or sleeps on his/her back, the machine will not supply that.
The Plus machines will not record breathing data either. Only number of hours used.
The DME gets paid the same from the insurance for a Plus and for an Auto, but they are not equivalent machines.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

In short.....your friend got lied to and ripped off.
And, unless he goes back and demands at least an "M Series Pro" machine, he won't know how his therapy is working.

My list of machines that record "full data" and those that don't -- as of October 2008.

Re: did dme give wrong machine??
I originally got the Remstar..it is a very nice unit...BUT, it is very loud. Neither I nor my wife could get to sleep, even with the ramp. I exchanged it for the Fischer & Paykel which is VERY quiet. I'm a happy camper.

Your machine doesn't have exhale pressure relief, which is important to some folks, myself included.LSAT wrote:I originally got the Remstar..it is a very nice unit...BUT, it is very loud. Have you always wanted to try the Liberty? Test drive it here!
Re: did dme give wrong machine??
Which DME was it ? Apria ?
I had a prescription for an AUTO machine and Apria assured me that they would fill the prescription as written.
They shipped me a straight CPAP machine, not an Auto.
It took me over a year to get it straight. They jerked me around hoping I would give up... but I didn't.
I ended up buying my own machine and getting partial reimbursement from my Insurance company.
But if you read the forum... you'll learn that this is a great ploy of the DME's. Promise you anything, but give you what they want to give you regardless of your prescription... wants... or needs.

The dme is Praxair. I never heard of them before. Are they only in Massachusetts?
