Hi!

Post by Grabraham » Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:09 am

Been reading for a couple of days and found the site to be infomative and proving to me once again that just about any topic has a discussion board somewhere on the Internet

I had a sleep study in June, with the results sent to my Primary Care MD last week. I do not have the numbers in front of me but there where enough Apneas and hypopnea (sp ?) for the drs involved to reccomend CPAP, weight loss (was already working on that ) and a CT scan with a ENT specialist.
I got a call from the DME 2 days after I reviewed the study results with my DR. The Dr prescribed a REMstar Plus C-Flex CPAP, REMstar Heated Humidifier which the DME had available and we scheduled a Friday AM appointment.

The DME did a very good job in explaining how the machine works, possible common problems and care of the equipment. I chose the ComfortLite mask because of the adjustability. Last night was my third night of CPAP assisted sleep. I do not feel like the world is a different place YET but am sticking with it because I do notice some improvement.

I the Dr prescibed a 7 setting with a 20 min ramp from 4 and I dont remember what the DME set the CFlex level at..

I have a second sleep study coming up in a couple of weeks for titration and final settings.

No real questions... just saying hi and introducing myself and where I am

Another big Welcome,

Lot of very helpful people here as I am sure you have already seen.

Pick up in days what might take months to learn.

Cheers

Welcome, Grabraham. Try the Target "shapeable" pillow. It's great.
Good luck. Sounds like you're off to a great start.

Night four (Monday) I popped into the chat for awhile, nice to "meet" some of you.

I fought with my mask swapping back and forth from the nasal to the simple interface finally got comfortable and leak free and just had a bear of a time falling asleep. At some point in the night / early am my wife woke me because there was a thunderstorm and wanted to know if I wanted her to unplug the computer. I was only half awake and told her " nahh it will be ok" and my brain said "thunderstorm!?!? I better take this mask off" so I did rolled over and went back to sleep. I laughed at myself in the AM when I realised how my subconscious fooled me into ditching the mask

Lastnight was better but the combo of the AC and the heated Humidifier treated me to a few rainstorms my half awake self sits up takes the mask off and shakes out a bit of water then puts it back on.. all and all I am feeling more rested and am nurturing a friendship with my cyborg accoutrements

That is wonderful news, that all in all you're feeling better. It takes time in the beginning to calm down the adrenaline to fall asleep. And the rainout, it's just a matter of adjustment or buying the Aussie hose eventually. Glad to hear you're doing so well so fast. Sounds like you're on the right track.

KEEP THE MASK ON!!!!!

Rainout is soooo annoying! But there is a way to eliminate it so you'll have one less thing to interrupt your sleep at night: The SleepZone Heated CPAP Tube from Australia (affectionately referred to here at cpaptalk.com as the Aussie Heated Hose):

SleepZone Heated CPAP Tubing

It really, really works!

All,

I too had enough sense to come in out of the rain. It's been hot and humid enough here in the South that I ran last night with the humidificator switched off. No rainout and I felt great this morning. Hoping my hot hose gets here before vacation on Friday!!!

Chuck
