DME goofs again

Post by Blackneto » Tue Nov 11, 2008 5:28 am

There was a cryptic message on my last invoice from my DME, Heartland Home Medical Supply.
"Your CPAP and Humidifier have been purchased"

and it lists a payment that is 90 days overdue. funny thing is that i've paid all my invoices as they came in except one for $10 that I got a week ago.

I was supposed to be renting this machine for 3 months or until my Doc approved purchase so that my Insurer would pay for part of it.

Looking back through the invoices and my EOB statements, I think the DME submitted the full amount to my insurance the first month.

I'm going to look into it further to see if i've been double charged on anything, but it's kind of cheesy. It looks like they actually submitted the purchase in July and were paid for it, then charged me rent for 3 months.
I was wondering why the invoices all looked odd, but I had no time to deal with it at the moment.

I was going to purchase my machine from elsewhere as I didn't want to do any further business with them.
But I guess since my deductable had already been met for the year, the machine and humidifier only cost me $80 out of pocket.
I shouldn't whine that much but I think it's shady billing.

It doesn't sound like they goofed at all... this was all done very deliberately with the express purpose of extracting more funds out of you.

If it was me I would be sorting out my paperwork and going after them.

It is unbelievable how bad DMEs are,,, and get away with it. If I screwed up a quarter as much as my DME has I'd be fired long ago.
