Cflex Disabled

I'm pretty new to this cpap thing (July) I found the screen on my machine, pushed the "set-up" button, and it read cflex disabled. What exactly does that mean? I know the guy set it up according to my sleep study. Thanks

C-Flex allows the machine to reduce the pressure when you exhale. 1 is the least and 3 is the most relief. C-Flex exhale releaf disabled means it is turned off. This is often a comfort thing and not really covered in the sleep study. I find it does make it more natural to breathe because it is easier to exhale. Most places turn it on and let the user determine which setting works best for them. It does not effect the set pressure to keep the airway open.

It means the guy that set it up didn't turn on "C-flex" ... a feature that drops the pressure some each time you start to exhale. Many people find that that feature makes it easier and more comfortable for them to breathe out. It's easier to get an exhalation started if you breathe out against a little less pressure than an absolutely steady single pressure.

I'm not a doctor, but I don't think there's any harm in trying out that comfort feature if you want to. Some people like the feel of C-flex. Some don't. Some find their treatment goes better with it turned on. Some find their treatment goes better with it turned off. If it were me, I'd try it. I personally like C-flex on, and I like the level (1 for least drop in pressure, 3 for most drop, as 6PtStar mentioned ) set at 3 myself.

C-flex is a "comfort" option that reduces the pressure slightly when you exhale. It has 3 different settings and "off". The three settings are different levels of pressure reduction, 1 being the smallest and 3 being the largest.

Look on your prescription to see if it lists a setting for C-Flex, EPR, or just Exhale Relief. If it says specifically to turn it off then you may not have done well on C-flex during you titration.

If you don't see anything of that sort on your prescription then the DME had no indication of whether to turn it on or off and just left it turned off. In this case you might try turning it on. Once it's on then you can easily adjust the setting between the 3 options. Somebody else here probably has instructions written up already on how to turn it on and off.

When I press the "cflex button, my lights dim down on my machine, I guess I thought it turned the heat on, but I guess not. Must be my numbered (1-5) setting is the heat? Or the moisture control? Maybe the heats on all the time...Heck, I don't know...lol

On my Respironics M-Series machine (probably what you have) the heat is the knob above the water tank. This knob turns up the heat on the humidifier to put more moisture in the air. So yes, it controls the heat and is the moisture control.

The Hospital where I had my sleep study done, sent my RX to Wright & Fillipis in Alpena Mi. They in turn sent a fellow to my house with all my equipment. He showed me how to use it, and helped my get started with it. Very nice people. I really never seen my RX, but could easily get it. Thanks to all of you for your help, I at least understand the cflex thing now...WOW rested gal, you've been at this a while...Bless you for helping others (and all the rest of you). Thanks, Larry...

Sleepy Boy, C-flex is supposed to be a comfort feature, however, I have experienced some additional effects.

I was prescribed a c-flex of 1. In attempting to argue for an auto machine, I told my RT that I was concerned about being able to exhale against a pressure of 16(my prescribed pressure). The RT told me to use a higher c-flex setting, so I started at 2. I wasn't getting very good AHI numbers so I reduced it to 1 and my AHI went down significantly. I tried turning off c-flex and my numbers got worse again.

Maybe I am just more sensitive to c-flex than most.
