water leaks from Respironics M series
water leaks from Respironics M series
My humidifier leaks when operating. I have removed the swivel connector and pluged my hose straight into the outlet. This machine is 2 years old. I see no cracks in the housing and the silicone seals seem to be fine. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Trish

Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
The little "O" ring seal in the chamber leaks when it gets pressure on it. For some sooner than others. The new universal chambers have a much larger seal and a larger latch to hold it closed. They seem to have fixed the problem. Replacing the chamber is about the only option. Do change it before the leaks short out the heating element.

This is my second chamber. Each has lasted about 1 year. I quit using this one earlier this summer and just started using it again.

When I used my plus I had this problem constantly. A new chamber helped some but I didn't get the newly designed one. Definitely do something before it ruins your machine.
Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
Make sure you get the one with the large black latch and the larger seal and it should last longer! Don't let them replace it with an older model (green sliding latch and teal colored seal).

Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
Get some 5-minute epoxy, take tank apart, leave the o-ring (probably a green one which is the earliest tank), use a Q-tip or small glue brush and brush epoxy all the way around on the o-ring, use a liberal amount so it squishes out when you put the two piece of the tank back together, go around the seam and make sure the epoxy is sealing the seam good, hook the latch and it wouldn't hurt to wrap it a few times with black electrical tape while the epoxy dries.
After it dries for about 30 minutes, remove the black tape, fill with water and put it back in the machine.
When you need to clean it, about every 2-3 months take a drinking glass of water with a teaspoon of laundry bleach, pour it in the tank, put fingers over square holes, slosh it around and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, pour out the bleach, rinse several times and you are good to go.
If it develops that which scaly build up on the bottom of the tank, mix some water and vinegar like you would clean your coffee pot or iron and fill the tank with that, let it sit for a couple hours it will dissolve that build up.
Personally, I like the bleach as it kill nearly everything in a short amount of time.

Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
Thought I'd mention my chambers have both had a gray latch and I think a gray seal as well. Very thin seal.

RUN A BEAD OF SUPER GLUE AROUND THE EDGES OF THE HEATING PLATE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK
Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
I used to lube the o-ring w/petroleum jelly before putting it back together. It kept the o-ring from hardening. Always check to be sure it isn't crimped when you put the chamber back together. If you glue it together, you'll never get it apart to properly clean it out.
Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
This is exactly why my profile shows the F&P 150 humidifier. It is great. My intergrated one leaked so bad it finally shorted out the heating element. They have only a 1 year warrenty and the chamber has a 90 day warrenty.

Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
But I thought you were a puddle lover! (Sorry, I couldn't resist).
I have two chambers with the teal colored seal. I guess I should be expecting them to leak soon. I'm going to glue as Snoredog suggested.

I have those too! From a 7yo and 5yo. I have replaced this machine after 2 major leaking episodes.

Re: water leaks from Respironics M series
Trish.....
My honey and have (3) of the M-Series machines...all with integrated humidifiers...(1) leaked....a 33% failure rate.
I fixed the leaker...here's how.....
Take the tank apart.....remove the O-Ring seal....note how it fits.
Carefully inspect the track that the O-Ring fits...both the top and bottom sections....use magnification.
You will probably see a tiny "mold mark defect" on the wall of the track where the O-Ring fits....I can't remember whether upper or lower section.
The defect will push the O-Ring sideways about 0.015".....thereby causing the leak.
With an X-Acto knife....or some other handy scraping blade....a pocket-knife maybe.....scrape the defect until it's gone.....and the track wall for the O-Ring is smooth.
Reassemble...fill with water.....try tank in all positions...look for a drip.
Finally....if you decide to seal the tanks together, you might want to consider clear Silicone Seal material....Lowe's sells it for construction uses.
Hope this helps....
