Help: Confused about C-Flex

Post by eutychus » Thu Oct 16, 2008 12:38 pm

My prescription included c-flex. My DME said that they couldn't enable it until they knew what pressure to set it at. Since the set-up guy has left earlier today, I discovered the provider instructions along with all my other stuff. I accessed the provider set-up menu and see there's no pressure setting for c-flex, only "off, 1, 2, or 3." If I set it to either 1, 2, or 3, is my C-Flex enabled? And, what do those numbers represent? FYI, my cpap setting is 9.0.

thanks

1, 2, and 3 indicate the amount of pressure drop on exhale. 1 being the least amount and 3 being the most.

Unfortunately, you have another clueless DME. C-Flex is a "comfort" setting for exhale relief. The C-Flex number isn't an exact pressure drop in centimeters of pressure (as ResMed's EPR is).......it's a "relative" (or adaptive - their word) decrease in pressure at the beginning of exhale......based on one's breathing. But, yes, a setting of "1" is the least relief and "3" is the most relief....and "Off" is.....well, OFF. I like a setting of "2".

http://cflex.respironics.com/

"C-Flex pressure relief technology makes sleep therapy more comfortable by reducing pressure at the beginning of exhalation and returning to therapeutic pressure just before inhalation. The level of pressure relief varies based on the patient’s expiratory flow and which of the three C-Flex settings has been selected."

"The real brains behind C-Flex is our patented Digital Auto-Trak & Sensitivity. Digital Auto-Trak is a highly sensitive algorithm that tracks each breath and detects the onset of inspiration and expiration – even in the presence of mask leak. It then responds by triggering C-Flex to provide an adaptive pressure relief right when the patient needs it. And delivering the right level of pressure relief when patients need it makes therapy more natural – and more comfortable."

I'm proud of you, man......we must be making progress with you, regarding users taking control of their own therapy.

One added comment re C-Flex set to 3 is that if you find you are getting 'mouth-pops' that is bubbles of air appearing in your mouth, which you either have to breathe out or swallow, *and* you start getting aerophagia (stomach bloat & flatulance or burping a lot), turn the C-Flex setting down to 2 or perhaps 1 & see if the symptoms go away.

Good luck

Thank-you so much. I didn't think an actual number (as in "centimeters") had to be programmed. This forum is amazing. I want to go to bed now so I can see what my numbers are in the morning!

So if I want to be obnoxious, turn it to '3' ?

Now you're getting it, buddy!!!!

However, you may want to re-think that strategy. When your therapy kicks in, and the, er "Oxygen Viagra" starts coursing through your veins, you'll be wanting to be on the the wifey-poo's good side.

LOL,
