Quotes in Posts

I think I'm supposed to feel reprimanded, or spanked.

Snoredog, I applaud your wealth of SDB and flow generator knowledge, and all the definitive help you gave me when I was struggling. It was welcome and remains deeply appreciated.

But, I posted the items and settings to reduce the frequent, repetitive questions about what I use in order to protect my health, achieve consistently beneficial treatment and good numbers. I assure you that many folks have commented that they were encouraged and had benefitted from seeing it. Of course, it's a matter of preference. And my preference now is to not snap-to and dance to a grouch-worded demand, suggestion or comment. Not today, anyway -- but I'll check my 2012 calendar for an open "snap-to and dance day."

Yes, it's a bit much, and I may delete, change or trim it, or may let it ride for a while yet. No offense meant, but tolerance is not your strong suit. And I'm not just speaking about this particular thread. But that's ok too, because I am tolerant, within prudent reason.

I have to question if we need all these big assed graphics as signature lines in every post, in fact some people get carried away using text. Not only does it look ugly, it makes for much harder reading and a hellva lot more scrolling, I have no idea who these people are trying to impress with that ugly crap.

Pixel per pixel, if you consider scroll height, my ugly crap takes up as much height as many people's text-only equipment profiles. Some members have equipment profiles, more text in their equipment profiles and signatures as well. My crap takes up less height now than it did before, and less height than many other people's sigs and equipment profiles together (e.g. carbonman), so scrolling shouldn't be that big a deal. Can you drag your finger that far? I know it's a chore. It's agony. I hope you're not losing sleep over it.

In fact, I'd been thinking about creating an online sig builder so that anyone could make their own sig using some simple backgrounds and equipment profiles. Maybe not.

Edit: What I'd really like to see is that the signature gets moved under the post, leaving the avatar column just for avatar info. I think that would clean up things nicely.

It also may be that some who post quote after quote after quote don't know what a HTML quote tag looks like to ensure the start tag and the end tag are still present after they've done their "edit"......

For those who don't know --
this is a begin quote tag --- "Left Bracket" quote="DreamDiver" "Right bracket" [ and ]
this is an end quote tag --- "Left Bracket" /quote "Right Bracket" [ and]
<<I had to text the brackets because if I left them in, the HTML reader interpreted them and put it in as a quote. the bracket examples are at the end [ and ] -- I'm glad I did a preview this time!! >>

Everything in between those two items will be in the quote box. If you are quoting something, just use the pertinent information and delete the rest -- for the most part we don't need the same stuff over and over as birdshell has noted.
I totally agree, but with the above understanding that not everyone "understands" HTML.......

And as for the "big" signatures or graphical rendition of them......I just ignore 'em and scroll past....I'm scrolling anyway, so it really makes no difference to me.......

Only jovial exemplification on my part. I actually like Karen's suggestion, despite occasionally forgetting to post that way myself.

Goose brings up a good point about some people being less apt with HTML/BBCode. I think they should get a pass. But those who like Karen's idea and don't mind implementing it make following the flow of threads easier.

Sometimes it is essential to quote because if somebody else posts ahead of you with an opinion contrary to the one you were providing a comment to, your reply will appear just the opposite of what you originally intended. Of course paring it down to the basic minimum quote required is the best, IMO

I am sorry if I am offending someone, but I know that it eats up the memory, uses more power, makes the search feature less efficient, and--in case you are interested--uses a larger carbon footprint. In other words, so much quoting is NOT "green". Ed Begley, Jr. would argue with his wife about this!

When you don't know html code, you can block the text you're interested in, and click on the quote button - that's in the row of buttons above the message window.

Then take the time to edit out unnecessary text - and block the next piece of relevant text, and click the Quote button again.

By the way, Goose, the new forum software has a "disable BBCode" check box. Maybe even the old one did - but I didn't notice it then.
