Problems with Infineer USB Card Reader
Problems with Infineer USB Card Reader
I very much want to use the myEncore software as I think it will enable me to figure out the causes of some of my sleep related problems.
But, although I've succesfully installed the Encore Pro software and the card reader software (meaning no errors), I'm having no luck getting data from the Infineer USB reader. When I launch the Infineer Reader Utility and click on select reader, it says "no readers found."
Choosing Reader State gives me "Protocol Indeterminate" and "SCARD_UNKOWN."
Anyone have a clue on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Device Driver
Hi,
Did the device driver for the card reader install ok ? (just a thought)
Being USB, the 1st time you plugged it in after installing the software, you should have seen a window appear saying new device detected & then it should say device ready for use (all this without you having to click anything).
If you saw none of this then what version of Windows are you using ?
WinXP should be no problems at all
Win2000 shd be ok
WinMe shd be ok
Win98 SE (2nd Edition) may cause some problems (to do with USB support)
Win95 will most probably not work and I wouldn't even try.
Cheers

Make sure your cardreader cable is plugged into a USB port that you know is good and that works. I have at least one USB port on my computer that wouldn't recognize my cardreader.
Also, go to the Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager and check to see if there's a "Smart Card Readers" section installed and that the device listed in it is working properly.

Re: Problems with Infineer USB Card Reader
Have you tried accessing the reader directly through Encore Pro?Macishman wrote:When I launch the Infineer Reader Utility and click on select reader, it says "no readers found."
I didn't even realize that the driver had installed any extra utilities until I thoroughly reread your post and went looking for them. The utility was able to find my reader and card, though, and Encore Pro is able to access it just fine.
My usual remedy for problems like the one you describe is to uninstall the driver, reboot, reinstall the driver and reboot like it says to do.
Thanks for all the responses. I have made a little progress, but still not gotten it to work properly.
It turns out that it doesn't like the USB Hub. When I plug the reader in directly, I get no error message and the Infineer tools see the reader properly. HOWEVER, when I got into Encore Pro and try to import data from the smart card, Encore Pro tells me there is no reader attached.
To answer questions contained in the thread.
I'm using Win XP sp2. No error messages during install. I did infact, remove the infineer software and reinstall more than once. Even checked the website to make sure I have the latest. I have not remove and reinstall Encore Pro at this point.
I have created a patient record for myself in Encore Pro, if that is the same as registering. I think I currently have 1 to 2 weeks of data on the card.
I have started to read Derek's guide, but haven't gotten much into it yet. I assumed that I needed Encore Pro working before Derek's software would do me any good.
Any other thoughts?
I may try installing this on my laptop and see if it acts any different, but not sure yet.

Did Windows installer actually install the card reader? (as in "Found new hardware")
Is it listed in the Device Manager?

You also need to install Encore Pro BEFORE you even plug in the reader and then do the install from the disk that came with it.

Yes, it is listed in the device manager and identified correctly.
And yes, I installed it after Encore Pro, although I can't take credit for that. I tried to install it first and the program warned me and would not install until I did Encore Pro, so I was saved from that mistake.
The error I'm getting in Encore Pro is "Smart Card Reader Not Installed."
Now that the device is being sensed by the Infineer Reader Utility, I'm getting
Event State: SCARD_STATE_PRESENT
Negotiated Protocol: Protocol Indeterminate
Card State: SCARD_UNKOWN
This sort of makes me wonder if the card has to be initialized somehow before use.
