reoccuring auto dreams
I use a Respironics M Series Bpap set to auto and at 11-20. Slept 7 and a half hours today (I work evenings, so I slept from 4 AM to 11:30 AM). I was dreaming just before I awoke.
I'm not sure if I was dreaming all night long about seeing (sometimes helping) people push stalled cars (with people in those cars) or if each "sighting" was part of the same dream but I was dreaming of walking along and I must have seen cars being pushed around 5 different times and at 5 different intervals..................I thought it was not so much strange as "noteworthy" that "so many cars were stalling and had to be pushed"....don't know what the dream meant.
Last dream, I was walking either with my late wife or my ex wife, not sure which she was, perhaps a blend of both? Saw a woman (who was familiar in the dream to me although not in real life), she would give a "mighty shove" to a car (car had friends of hers in it) and car would move several blocks. She ran after the car to push it again, we talked to her and wanted to help push the car. She (the woman pushing the car) told me something indicating that her friends in the car ingested (breathed in) illegal drugs (cocaine?) and my wife/ex wife told me something indicating that the other woman was "hiding" her actual ethnicity and my wife recognized what group she actually belonged to (this is a dream, please consider this and consider as well that there are deeper meanings behind what may seem to be irrelevant comments made by dream characters).
I felt it was foolish to run after her to help push the car but we were almost hypnotically drawn to follow and as I woke up, I dreamt that I was running through thick mud.
My first ex wife was very good at hiding her ethnicity BTW.
My other ex wife sold marijuana, I was 100% against it, divorced her for that reason, even spoke against drugs yesterday on the phone to her.
Woke up, machine was at 14.6, took mask off, came back, machine was at 15.6.
Anyone understand my dream and also is it ok for machine to keep raising air pressure once mask is off?

Always shut the machine off before taking your mask off.
Dreaming with or without XPAP therapy is not necessarily an indication of apnea events.

Re: Dream
Good advice! And, I wish I could. Usually in my half-awake state, I fish over the side of the bed for the large humidifier setting button, then move left to the small ramp button, then hope to find the off button. I'm thinking of making an elevated cap for it. Perhaps I could make a red transparent cap and the popular blue light (not) would then be purple.Wulfman wrote:Always shut the machine off before taking your mask off.

Re: Dream
I wouldn't bet a nickel on the accuracy of my understanding of my dreams, much less anyone else's. Sometimes there are apparent parallels to life situations, sometimes apparently a result of them (pizza at bedtime ). Just the other night I recounted a dream to my daughter, and was able to pick out a few evening discussions, a commercial, a news report, and a show that all played into the story in my dream. I chalked that one up to just my crazy sleep lately.
However, I am 100% convinced that when I was having certain pre-cpap dreams they were precipitated by apnea events. While the mini-dramas were totally non-sensical as to person and place, they all carried a common theme of someone or something choking, drowning, suffocating, or anything related to the mouth. To me there is no doubt that the physical sensations we experience during sleep can trigger the basic content of our dreams. Who hasn't had a dream they were in a bathroom somewhere and when they woke up, had to make a run for for it? The dream had been triggered by a physical sensation. Just seems the mind pulls from what's available to piece together a story about that sensation.
I am receptive to occasional dreams being deep and revelatory. Just don't think that's our garden variety dream.
If you had done any previous reading about how an autopap pap works, maybe when your pressure would rise to prevent or correct an apnea, you would have these dreams about pushing stalled cars. Seems only natural that you would pull from your most familiar pool of resources for characters in the dreams.
So, does anyone think your dreams could have been related to your apnea? I do. But dreams are so iffy, it's anyone's guess.

How long have you had treatment. For the first few months I had some very strange dreams and I still do but they were strange and I had a lot of them. Sometimes when we are first on treatment we enter our REM unlike before and have stranger dreams. I have them when I have my apenas and when I don't. So I don't think that they are really conected. A lot of times you will dream a lot of if you have a lot on your mind. You might have seen a stalled car, or if your car is having issues, and talking to your ex about her drug issue is on your mind as well. You are worried about her. We tend to dream about what we last think about.

Re: Dream
I have dreams that most of the time are related to something in my life---past high school, the day care I ran years ago, etc. Occasionally, I have very deep and meaningful dreams that I call my "God dreams," because they are most definitely Biblical in nature.
Now, I wonder with the stalled cars and pushing them---maybe the pressure rising in the machine to get "stalled" breathing going again (pushing stalled cars to get them going again)? Don't have any thought about the rest of it. Just throwing that idea out there.
I had to laugh about something in one of my "God dreams," the other night. (Serious dream with this comic line). Someone had turned off a light in a hallway I was running down, which made it pitch black. I had just passed a string to a light in the ceiling when this happened and I hollered, "What, do you think I'm too stupid to know how to turn on a light?" Pretty much what I might say in real life, too! LOL

LOL, I'm the new guy here, can you sell me a map of this forum instead of giving me some advice?
I'm confused......what type of "map" would you like to buy? You started this thread to get "advice" about some stupid dream.....I was just giving you "advice" about something you included in your post. You stated that you've only been on this therapy for three months, so when you make a post, be prepared to get some feedback on what you put in it. I've been on this forum for over three years and haven't seen or heard of any shrinks who interpret dreams here. And, if there were, it would be professionally unethical for them to do so on a public forum. Most of us (probably ALL) have dreams WE don't understand, either. What makes you think we can interpret YOUR dreams???
