Well...and then there are people like me who absolutely cannot tolerate the adhesive even on a plain old bandaid! I have to use hypoallergenic bandaids!!! (very hard to find!!!) The tape on the EKG sensor that the sleep study techs put on my neck caused my skin under the tape to completely blister and become the most horribly itchy, nasty looking sore square on my neck. It took 3 weeks for it to completely to disappear, too. I looked like I had a hickey for weeks!!!! UGH!!

3M's Micropore hypoallergenic surgical tape works great for me - one of those people who reacts allergically to a "plain old bandaid".



I also religiously follow the recommendation made by Repironics' reps on a chat on TAS: "For those with sensitive skin, it is a good idea to soak ANY new mask you use for 30-60 minutes in mild soapy water" http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/sleep-dis ... hat.htm#63

Thanks Ozij, I have heard of this tape, but what I have found, was not like it. And it still broke my skin out terribly. I will look for this one.

I hope it helps, Joyce. But you should know that 3M also sells this tape without a blue dispenser.

The important thing is all parts of the name: Micropore, Surgical.

However, it is hypoallergenic, I had it used on me instead instead of regular tape after a hysterectomy (5 or so days of lots of tape) with no ill effects.

Bummer...now a week and a half into the Liberty and I am developing a pressure sore on my upper lip!!!! WAAAAA!!!! I LOVE my Liberty and I REALLY want to be able to use it every night!!!!!! Any suggestions on this, too??!!

Have you tried adjusting your straps? It should not have to be held tight against your face to seal properly, so if you loosen the straps to just the point where it seals well, you might not have that problem. My RT repeats with every new mask that I might have marks on my face in the morning but they should go away within a few minutes, otherwise the straps are too tight.

In fact, I switched from a Swift II to a Swift LT just this past week and the first couple nights it was slightly too tight on top so I ended up with a couple of sore spots on the tip of my nose that were rubbed raw, much better since I loosened the straps (once I realized the tenderness on the tip of my nose was mask related and not something like a pimple forming).

Also, don't apologize for coming here for advice, that's the primary purpose of this forum! It's exactly what you're supposed to do here!

Thanks so much for the tip!!! Now...where do I get this?? Walgreens/CVS/etc, or at a surgical supply store??? I am getting a pressure sore on my upper lip from my Liberty (apparently my skin is pretty sensitive, huh?!) so I'll need to switch nights between my Liberty and my Mirage so that neither area gets a pressure sore in the future, I guess. So, if I have to use my mirage, I will have to tape my mouth shut and the micropore tape sounds like a good idea.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing back as to where I can get this tape. What a relief it will be to have some first aid tape in the house that I'll be able to use, too!!!

A light coat of milk of magnesia also helps with tape allergy issues. Just a light coat will give a nice barrier that seems to stop any reaction for me.

Thanks, Brenda. I know I've read that here before, but it just occurred to me that might work for taping wounds too. My wife's skin almost blisters from most tapes and is very sore. I'll try that. Hmmm, Milk of Magnesia for her, ice cream for me! Sounds fair to me.

Even with the special tape I have to use (kendall tenderskin tape), I occasionally get a small tear in the skin by my lip. I just coat it wit milk of magnesia the next night and tape right over it. It helps the sore heal more quickly and the tape sticks right over it.

If worst comes to worst, you could order the tape on line.
I can't give you tips about buying it in the states, since I don't live there - over here (Israel) I can get it in pharmacies and drug stores. It seems to be part of their "professional" series.

To the posters who post about Milk of Magnesia....does it dry and allow you to tape over it???? How does that work with the tape??

I recently discovered that if I put a tiny bit of bacitracin ointment on my pressure sore after I wash my face at night, then put my mask on, it helps it heal and still allow me to keep wearing my regular mask. I like my Liberty so much that I will try anything to be able to use it. And the sore I got the other night is going away and I am still using the mask!! I did loosen it a little bit, though, too. The combination of bacitracin and a little loosening seems to be the trick!!

Oh...and I put a tiny bit of bacitracin on the spot in the morning,too....

The milk of magnesia dries very quickly, then you just tape as usual. You do have to be sure to wash it off in the morning! It won't hurt to leave it on...but it sure will look strange!

Hi Babette,

Tegaderm is a type of transparent dressing that can be used to cover up and I.V. site or a cut you don't want to get dirty or wet. I use the 2 3/8 x 2 3/4 size and purchase them in a 100 pack and cut them in half on the long side. I like them becasue they are easy to remove and I dont have goo left on my lips or face. Easy to get off, I push my tongue forward to break the seal and remove. The cheapest place online that I have found was a http://www.healthproductsforyou.com You can also google "tegaderm 2 3/8 x 2 3/4" to see what you can come up with.

Before I was sure that it would work, I bought a small pack at Walgreens, 10 or 20 in the pack. The 100 pack runs about $45 but it also last for quite some time.
